What Shaped the Renaissance Worldview? The western worldview grew out of ideas that were brought about by the Black Death, the humanist movement, and religious reform. The Black Death killed most of Europe’s population, opening spots for jobs and spots to move in the feudal system. This caused people to think out of the box, it also helped people see that everyone had something in common king or serf. The humanist movement also had a key role that helped people see the bigger picture. Last but no least the religious reform also played a key role. The three main factors were value of life, the arts, and the spread of the knowledge. From the writings of the ancient Greeks and Romans people discovered that life had value. People decided to care about their life on earth over the afterlife and to live to their fullest potential. People started buying goods to fulfill their lives instead of giving everything to the church. People started living their lives like no tomorrow and lived how they wanted to. People wanted to become more literate and understood the bible. Since the mechanical printing press was printing in vernacular languages. People saw that life was short and they should live it freely due to the amount of people that died during the Black Death. According to……………… My second point is about the arts. The Arts and the advancements in the materials created a great role in humanism. Artists focused more on making it realistic and used many techniques to fulfill their art. Not all about religion no more. Oil paints were made which helped make the art more realistic. Arts were on living people instead of religious figures. This also made the art more lifelike. More wealthy patrons who want to make portraits or sculptures. The artists got a job from it too. More prestige for artists and that was what everyone wanted. The protestant reformation, Protestants, and the Counter Reformation were all contributors. The Protestant Reformation was the want of changes from the people of the Roman Catholic Church. People wanted an end to the corruption, and some people like Martin Luther died for what they believed. After the needs of the people weren’t acted upon they started their own protestant church. The Renaissance Period is widely known for the abundance of amazing portraiture that circulated around Europe. During the Renaissance, Albrecht Dürer, a German artist painted a self-portrait in 1500 that had qualities that differed from the usual style of artist in that time (Chauhan). Jean Clouet also painted a portrait for the King of France and became the official court painter. Both artists had a talent for portraiture, while their styles were quite different. King Francis I wanted to be seen as a powerful man, and appointed Clouet to paint him in a classically renaissance way that highlights his wealth and authority. Dürer, described as a cocky, self-centered man, painted himself in a light that is unique and puts him on a ‘holy’ pedestal (Stokstad 356). In this essay I will show how although both paintings have clear differences with their style, both men in the compositions are conveyed in a great and very powerful sense.
Western Europe was more concerned with their Maker and the redemption of their souls than with their individual lives on earth. This meant that the development of their own philosophies and schools of thought would occur later than many other postclassical civilizations. However, the time period was not without achievement. It laid the ground for discoveries of tremendous importance that would change the known world forever.
There are always major changes happening to western civilizations. These changes can become the cornerstones of revolutions and the keynotes of history. Religion, civil rights, economic struggle, intellectual enlightenment as well as other civil inquisitions have led western civilization through its twist and turns. For the whole of Europe in its transitions from medieval times to the modern world, it was influenced by a change in ideology. Philosophies and sciences brought about the new age for Europe. The Counter-Reformation also known as the Catholic Reformation took place in Italy during the 1500’s. The Counter-Reformation was an event that happen within the Roman Catholic which tried to abolish the mistreatment of regulations within the church. The Counter-Reformation was essentially the attempt to reform the Catholic Church ideals, so they wouldn’t lose anymore citizens to the Protestant religion at the time. The Counter-Reformation arose largely due to the effects of the Protestant Reformation. The Protestant Reformation took place in the 16th century where there was a religious, intellectual, political, and culture uproar that divided South Europe. The Renaissance as a Time of Change The Renaissance was a time of social and economic change, feudalism was nearly abolished and money became a heavy commodity rather than loyalty and promises. The church became secularized and people put more emphasis on science and arts. Ideas and values enveloped the land. At this time the peasant population was around ninety percent of the overall population.
The Protestant Reformation was a period of time (1500-1700) where there became a change in Western Christendom. This reformation was caused by the resentment from the people because the Catholic Church abusing their powers for political and economic advances. In this time the church was selling pardons for sin and indulgences to forgive sins, decrease days spent in purgatory and save the dead from damnation. The Reformation is a very famous time during the European history as well as the three people that started this revolution in the Catholic community. This was a bad time for the catholic church, due to the fact that they changed their ways on how people get into heaven. As well as people learning how to read the bible. The Reformation occurred all over Western Europe. It was mostly set in Germany where various parts of corruption in the Church happened. The Reformation truly ends the Middle Ages and begins a new era in the history of Western Civilization. The Reformation ended the religious unity of Europe and ushered in 150 years of religious warfare. By the time the conflicts had ended, the political and social geography in the west had fundamentally changed. The Reformation would have been revolutionary enough of itself, but it coincided in time with the opening of the Western Hemisphere to the Europeans and the development of firearms as effective field weapons. It coincided, too, with the spread of Renaissance ideals from Italy and the first stirrings of the Scientific Revolution. Taken together, these developments transformed Europe.
Counter Reformation The Counter Reformation, also called the Catholic Reformation, The Roman Catholic Church directed this push back reformation during the sixteenth through seventeenth century. The Catholic Reformation was a response to the Protestant Reformation, which was led by Martian Luther and John Calvin. Protestants began to disagree with the teachings of the Catholic Church, and they addressed those to the pope and priests and demanded that the church be reformed, however nothing was done. A main person that started the Counter Reformation was Pope Paul III.
The world of the Renaissance There was a time period called the Renaissance it started during 1300C.E.-1700C.E., before the Renaissance started there was another time period called the Middle Ages which started in the 5th century to the 15th century. The word Renaissance means “rebirth” or also “revival. But the restatement question is “ How did the Renaissance change man’s view of the world?” In the Renaissance it was a time period where the people would paint pictures but with light colors. But, in Middle Ages they used dark colors and on their churches they had gargoyles on top of them.
Religion is a predominant force in our world today. It also had a strong impact on the lives of those alive during the Protestant Reformation. Many people became key figures in bringing about the ideas that founded the Protestant Reformation like John Calvin and most importantly Martin Luther. Martin Luther pinned these concerns of his to the door of his church and was not afraid to voice his opinion, I think this was the key to the Reformation, and without people willing to risk everything to bring a change like this about, then it all would have been impossible.
The Renaissance time period took place during the 14th and the 16th centuries it began in Europe. The Renaissance was a time of art, open ideas, and new beginnings. Before this time there was the Middle Ages. Then it was not a good time at all, it was full of sickness, disease, death, and the plague it killed almost half of Europe’s population. After the plague slowly decreased the population in Europe started to grow. Lots of new things started to happen. Like Bankers Merchants, and Tradespeople had a new market for their services. People became wealthier and had more money to spend. People began to build much bigger houses and buy more expensive clothes and people became more interested in the art and liturature. People began to learn foreign languages, they read more, played instruments, and finding more that interested them.

The main effect the Reformation had on Europe was the religious thinkings. The Churches now taught the importance of the individual conscience and gained new purity and strength through counter Reformation. The counter Reformation was created by the Catholic Churches as an answer to the Protestant Reformation.
