The Consumption of The Pigs

Everyone has their wants and needs. Some people seem to put their wants above their needs, or sometimes above others needs. In the novella Animal Farm, George Orwell describes how the pigs abuse their power by using it in a very dictator like manner. Old Major had set the animals on a path of success to reach their freedom. They had chose to rebel against the farmers which they were successful in doing. Unfortunately, the plan had taken a turn in direction as the pigs became very greedy and were consumed by their power. The animals have fallen for so many of the pigs manipulative tricks, that they are obliged to believe anything that the pigs say but there are more ways to force the animals to do what they want besides that. One way is by instilling fear into the farm, which Napoleon shows through the pups. He threatens the animals with death if they don't do whatever he tells them to, even it means to take something away from them by force, or to make the animals believe false accusations, or even by simple making them work harder. This is shown as he and Squealer always have pups around them whenever they are making manipulative speeches, or spreading false accusations about Snowball. Another example of this is when Napoleon committed a mass murder and slaughtered a majority of the farm for simply speaking on Snowball. After this horrid occasion, the animals feared Napoleon and the pups even more than they already had. They were obliged to obey every command Napoleon gave them. Another way, is simply through propaganda. The main character guilty of using propaganda would be Squealer. This is shown throughout the book as he has convinced the animals to believe almost anything by adding a keyword into his sentence, “Jones”. Whenever Squealer mentions anything in the realm of Jones returning to the farm, the animals automatically do whatever they must in order to prevent that from happening. Another example would be when Boxer was sent away to a horse slaughterer so that the pigs could afford to be purchased. This worried the animals sick, but Squealer brainwashed the animals into believing that Boxer just went to a hospital and that the truck hadn’t repainted their sign. This is how the pigs get the animals to do whatever they want. Finally, when the pigs evolve. This could be described in many ways such as they evolved from leaders to rulers, or even they evolved from animals to humans. This was due to a source of domination
