I will be telling you about the cold war. A cold war happens when there is intense economic, political, military, and cultural competition. This war almost destroyed two countries. The cold war started at the end of World War Two. In World War Two America and Russia were allies, but when Khrushchev was elected, he changed Russia’s government from socialist to communist. America was not happy about this so we did things to lower Russia’s economy like stop trading with them In these next 2 paragraphs’ I will be telling you some major conflicts that happened during the cold war the first one I will tell you about is the atomic age in 1949 the Soviets tested their first atomic bomb this angered the USA so in response the USA said they would make a bomb bigger than the one they made. Have you heard of the Sputnik? It was the first artificial Earth satellite. The Soviet Union launched it into an elliptical low Earth orbit on October 4, 1957. This started the space race. Once the USA says they were behind in Russia. In 1958, the U.S. launched its own satellite, Explorer I it was designed and made by the us army but Russia step it up a bit and sent the first man into space in April 1961 the US know they had to do something better so John F. Kennedy made a bold stamen that we would send a man to the moon. And they did on July 20, 1969 mission Apollo 11 made it to the moon and Neil Armstrong was first to step foot on the
