There is not true definition on what it means to be an adult, there is an age sure where you are legally considered an adult at eighteen years old, but as seen in texts we read this year such as The Body, Pleasantville, and Room characters that are vastly under the age of 18 are forces or rise to the role of an adult. The idea of being and adult is also a question that has no definition. One can think it means when you start a family and have children or it can be when you have to get a job to provide for a loved one different situations at home an in life cause children and more broadly people to grow up quickly. Hoever just like The Body both characters grow up into adults in their own way. Jennifer who takes over the persona of Marry Sue a fun loving shy girl changes from her counter culture ways of rebelling against the norm and engaging in acts that spark color upon the small town of Pleasantville. He actions being a counterculture movement that changes the course of the town drastically. With no guidance from her parents or a guiding figure Mary Sue is pivotal in the change of the town to accept those of color and accept ides of prejudice and discrimination into a more open society that is prosperous with both those of color and those lacking. She recognizes that her past life as a punk rebellious teenager was something that will be unfruitful for her in the long term of her life and choses to stay in the end of the film, go to college and work to better herself and education. As someone who thought she was “too cool for school” and figured that her life would peak in high school like many of her classmates, her growing up into a sophisticated student of literature and schoolor talking responsibility of her own life proved she had grown up into an adult. The same phenomenon happened to Bud who plays David in the show, however it happens in a very different way and with a different outcome. That is what is so interesting about growing up into an adult there is no one copy paste
