The Benefits of Running
Why do they run? Running. It’s painful, tedious, and exhausting. So, why do so many Americans do it? People run for many reasons. Most often, people run to stay in shape and to reach an ideal body weight. Studies show that a combination of diet and exercise is the most effective way to lose weight, as it triggers a loss of body fat and a proportional increase of lean tissue. Running, a rigorous cardiovascular exercise, allows a person to burn an average of 100 calories per each mile he or she runs. Other popular activities, such as biking and walking, only burn a fraction of those calories in the same amount of time. While the average human being burns about 2000-2500 calories a day by simply existing, running 5 miles a day can burn an additional 500 calories, making it a legitimate way to lose weight. Furthermore, running is an easily accessible activity-- with a decent pair of sneakers and some determination, anyone can run.
Surprisingly, how fast a person runs has little effect on the number of calories he or she will burn. The most important factor is weight. For example, a 220-pound person running an eight-minute mile burns 150 calories, while a 120-pound person running at the same pace burns only 82. Every person’s body requires an excess of 3500 calories in order to gain a pound or a deficit of 3500 calories in order to lose a pound. Thus, 180-pound person who runs 5 miles each day will lose about 5 pounds a month. However, as his or her weight goes down, he or she will burn fewer calories per mile. Eventually, a runner’s weight will stabilize. When this will happen depends on how much the runner eats and how far he or she runs. Most runners lose weight effortlessly at first, but eventually, t...

Clinical Nurse Leaders’ responsibility scope includes all nurse and patient management details except for administrative duties. They are important resources in United States medical intuitions. CNL candidates must have a master’s degree to fulfill this position. This knowledge gives them the needed skill set to manage the daily operation of the hospital’s entire nursing pool. They also observe and regulate the patient care setting. Ultimately, the Clinical Nurse Leaders’ role will continue to gain importance as healthcare caseloads increase in
In the leadership position, the nurse manager must be concerned with reducing incremental overtime for the common good in order for the unit to stay as it is and to prevent drastic changed that will make the nurses on the unit unhappy. The nurses are assigned hours based on availability and as a leader the nurse must realize that the overtime adds up and will eventually lead to decreased availability in hours and possible layoffs from the unit; therefore it is essential to complete tasks such as assessments, administering medications, documenting and providing basic care within the allotted time. When positive leaders create an encouraging and positive environment, then the nurses are more likely to comply. The nurses on the unit want to be motivated and inspired and that is where a leader can come in and give them encouragement and emphasize that they all want to achieve the same goal of providing excellent care in an appropriate amount of time, the end result is that there will be more hours available and rewards for those who are following the lead. The nursing manager cannot accomplish the task alone and as a leader, she must believe in the nursing team and each of the nurses on the unit to work towards the decreasing the incremental overtime. By believing in other people she can encourage the staff nurses and offer assistance by asking how they can work together to achieve this goal. Another important characteristic of a leader is being synergistic and bringing the team together to work towards the same goal. The nurse manager can bring the nurses together by reinforcing that it is a team effort and asking the nurses to step up and offer assistance when someone
Communication and transportation also enhanced during this period. Three main types of transportation that developed during the Industrial Revolution were waterways, roads and railroads. The cheapest way to carry iron and coal is transported on waterways. Businessman and merchants used big ships to carry cargos, and th...
By the 1750's, the industrial Revolution had begun. At first, inventions were strictly limited to cotton weaving. Inventions such as the spinning jenny and the water-powered frame, both of which provided spinning yarn faster, the spinning mule, the power loom and the cotton gin, all helped the manufacture of cotton goods by speeding up the process. Mass production had begun, along with capitalism. Capitalist, people who have their own materials, money and space, bought many machines and stored them in a factory, where hired people worked the whole day manufacturing goods. The factory system had replaced the cottage industry. Mass production made usually expensive items, such as shoes, less expensive and easily affordable by lower class and less wealthy people.
According to the CDC, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, adults should do at least 150 minutes a week of moderate-intensity exercise, or 75 minutes week of intense aerobic activity. Everyone should try to do at least the recommended amount of weekly exercise. Not exercising can be detrimental to one’s health. Exercising moderately for at least 150 minutes a week or working out intensely for 75 minutes can add, on average, 3.4 years to one’s lifespan, while people who do not exercise have the highest premature death rate. Being active has both mental and physical benefits, adding exercise to your routine can create a happier, healthier lifestyle. Exercise, no matter how strenuous or simple, is an important activity for all people.
Endurance running is a rewarding experience that puts to test an athlete’s courage, perseverance and determination. It is a marvelous wonder how the human body, with the proper conditioning and mental focus, could achieve such tasking running distance. Elite runners complete the marathon course in just over 2 hours, while the average runner completes it in about 4.5 hours. It’s difficult to comprehend how someone could run, consistently, for 4.5 hours. The actual marathon is simply a formality as the journey starts the day training begins. The outcome, the day of the marathon, is dependent on how successful the training program was executed. Long distance runners are the biggest advocates of the sport, always convincing others to jump on the training wagon. However, some runners, while they refuse to admit it, ponder if the effects of long distance running could be doing more damage than good. It is true that long distance running is potentially dangerous to the heart; however, research suggests that physician examination, as well as proper mechanics and posture during the training phase would ensure an enjoyable journey towards reaching an endurance goal injury free and would even benefit the heart in the long run.
Aerobic exercise is a type of exercise that increases the heart rate and speeds up breathing for a continuous period. This sustained raise overloads the heart and lungs and causes them to work harder than at rest. Therefore, with weight loss aerobic activity is generally suggested far more than anaerobic activity. “Cardio-respiratory endurance, or aerobic, activities, such as walking, jogging, running, swimming, and bicycling, are the most useful for losing weight because they eventually burn more calories than do muscle-strengthening exercises, such as weight training or calisthenics” (Fine, & Kusinitz, 1995).
Geoffrey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales became one of the first ever works that began to approach the standards of modern literature. It was probably one of the first books to offer the readers entertainment, and not just another set of boring morals. However, the morals, cleverly disguised, are present in almost every story. Besides, the book offers the descriptions of the most common aspects of the human nature. The books points out both the good and the bad qualities of the people, however, the most obvious descriptions are those of the sinful flaws of humans, such as greed and lust.
Contrary to popular belief, getting fit is not the only benefit in exercising. Exercising offers many benefits, getting fit being the most obvious benefit, other benefits include prolonged health, reduction of chronic illnesses, improved mental health, boost energy, promotes better sleep, and even enhances your sex life.
If one has ever read the General Prologue of Geoffrey Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales, they will find the attitude of Chaucer to be very opinionated and complex toward the members of the clergy. Some of the clergy consists of the Monk, the Prioress (also known as the nun), and the Friar. Chaucer has gone into depth of each one of these members in each section of the Prologue. From reading each section and analyzes his attitude towards each member, it is portrayed that Chaucer has a complex attitude of appreciation and dishonesty towards the members of the clergy.
One of the biggest industries during the Industrial Revolution was textiles. Many women and children made pants, shirts, socks, bedspreads, and other items by their tiny hands and fingers with cloth. With the population growing in England, more people were willing to pay for these items instead of making the items themselves. This started to lead to a new factory system. With “cotton becoming the world’s most imp...
Lack of exercise is the cause of most health-related issues today. Americans are becoming ill every second from lack of exercise, yet nothing is being done to prevent these diseases. Diet plans and exercise programs are advertised in every corner, yet they are ignored. Many disorders and diseases are preventable, and even curable without the aid of modern technology. Regardless, the illnesses are at an all time high and show no sign of declining. What many individuals fail to realize is how essential fitness is to life. It is imperative in order to sustain a healthy lifestyle for many reasons.
First, losing weight happens faster through a proper diet and not doing exercise. Good nutrition is more important than exercise because it helps to lose weight.
Just like the phrase ‘an apple a day keeps the doctor away’ physical exercise can do the same. By exercising, your body becomes stronger and healthier. An active lifestyle provides a number of benefits. Evidence is growing that for most Americans, becoming physically active may be the single most important lifestyle change for promoting health and wellbeing. Exercise benefits a person’s overall wellness because it can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, strengthen bones and muscles, and improve mental health and mood.
The benefit of physical fitness is to prevent obesity and encourage a healthy lifestyle thru training and focusing on the body’s compositions. Physical fitness is the measure of the body’s ability to go full capacity. If one doesn’t exercise ones body doesn’t work at its full potential all the time. Exercise can lower the risk of having major problems with ones body and relieve stress.
