The APGAR test is a quick, overall assessment of newborn well-being. The APGAR is used immediately following the delivery of a baby and test scores are recorded at one minute and five minutes from the time of birth. The 1-5 minutes scores determines how well the baby tolerates birthing process and how well the baby doing outside the mother womb. “The test was designed to quickly evaluate a newborn's physical condition and to see if there's an immediate need for extra medical or emergency care.” The APGAR test is performed by doctor, nurse, and midwife. APGAR measures the baby’s skin color, heart rate, reflexes, muscle tone and respiratory effort. Each category is scores 0, 1, and 2 it is depending on the observed condition.
Brookes Publishing Company in 2009. The purpose of the ASQ-3 is to be used to identify if any children are in need of in-depth evaluation or benefit from the evaluation for developmental delays. The audiences for which it is intended for are directed towards parents or caregivers since they are the ones that is knowledgeable of all that the child is capable of accomplishing. The message is to find out how the child responds in the five areas compared to their peers. The tone of the questionnaire is very interactive, because there are many questions that require testing the child’s abilities to see if they can accomplish a particular task. An example would be to test a child to see if they can follow directions by asking the child to put a book on the table and put a shoe under the table. Then you would write down if the child followed the directions
The Behavioral Assessment System for Children, Second Edition was written by Cecil R. Reynolds and Randy W. Kamphaus. The BASC-2 was published in 2004 by Pearson. It was from Britain that standardized testing originated, not only throughout the commons of Britain, but to Europe and then America. A big contributing factor to the growth of standardized testing in the United States was immigration. Standardized tests were used in immigration when people first came over to test social roles and find social power and status. EOI tests have the same purpose as competency tests. It assesses a student’s abilities and knowledge of objectives and concepts (FACTS End-Of-Instruction).
In Flannery O’Connor’s short story, A Good Man is Hard to Find, a family gets in a car accident on a deserted dirt road. Unluckily for them, they are found by a group of three escaped convicts, led by a man who calls himself The Misfit. These convicts systematically execute the family in twos as the Misfit talks with the grandmother. While the catalyst for this execution is the grandmother’s verbal recognition of The Misfit as an escaped criminal, it is clear that he commits his crimes for deeper reasons. The Misfit is angry on a fundamental level, and acting out on this anger is the closest he can come to feeling pleasure in this life.

Nocturnal polysomnography involves using equipment that monitors the heart, lung and brain activity, breathing patterns, movement of arm and leg, and blood oxygen levels while you sleep. A doctor may also provide a simplified test that can be used at home. These tests involve measuring heart rate, blood oxygen, and breathing patterns. The test results will show drops in oxygen levels during apneas. Individuals with obstructive sleep apnea may be referred you to an ear, nose and throat specialist to determine if there is a blockage in the nose or throat. For milder cases, a doctor may recommend lifestyle changes, such as losing weight or quitting
The title of this article is specific enough on what information they are looking for when they are testing the drugs. However, they do not specify what the drugs are that they are testing and leave the reader guessing at one glance at the title. I assume one of the drugs is ibuprofen, because that was one of the keywords in my search for an article. The title is not overly long and is rather concise, which may have been their reasoning for leaving out the drugs of choice.
Maternal serum markers tests determine the presence of pregnancy as well as the age of the fetus. The test allows the patient to be screened for the presence of fetal risk as determined by levels of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), estriol, and human chorionic gonadotropin (Hcg) (Genetic Alliance, 2010). Maternal serum screening test is a blood test which is offered during pregnancy to determine the risks of neural tube defects, Down syndrome (trisomy 21) and Edward syndrome (trisomy 18) to the fetus. ("Pregnancy tests," 2014). During the first trimester maternal serum testing is used in combination with ultrasound to determine the risks. The test involves blood screening between 9 and 13 weeks gestations and an ultrasound
Prenatal Diagnostic Testing is when a pregnant woman has genetic testing done within her first three months of pregnancy. Prenatal testing helps to see if your baby has an infectious or sexually transmitted disease, or a problem that is preexisting making the women have a high-risk pregnancy . (Prenatal diagnosis) This genetic testing was prevented to help women see if her child has a genetic disorder, like down syndrome. This testing is done in three stages which are blood testing, a special kind of ultrasound, and a cell-free DNA screening. A cell-free DNA screening is a newly found testing that is testing it see if your fetus is missing a chromosome, causing it to have one of the many disorders the baby could have.
For decades newborns have gone through screening and assessments to determine where they are health wise after birth. The screening and assessments not only worry about the immediate moment, but also look for possible presence of disorders that could affect the newborn in the future. There are a number of different assessments and scales used after a newborn is born. The neonatal assessments and scales range from assessing behavior to determining whether there is a possible medical condition that could arise later in life for the infant. The screening and assessments are necessary, even if not all of them are completed there are some that will be done automatically after birth.
After completing the Clifton strength finders test, I learned my dominant strengths and it gave me a sense on what areas I am strong in. It allows you to work in the areas that you are good in and not in the ones you might not be as strong in. My top five strengths were learner, connectedness, belief, positivity, and includer. A lot of these I figured I would have because I am an athlete and I love to be positive. That is good because I practice these strengths every day which in turn will make me better at them and will allow me to use them in my career.
The Infant and Toddler Rating Scale is just one of the four scales that share the same format and use a scoring system. All the scales have different requirements because they assess different age groups and different settings. These tests are checking on the organization of space, interactions, activities, schedules and provisions of staff and parents. This scale is specifically set up for children from birth to 30 months of age; this group is most vulnerable physically, emotionally and mentally. This scale assesses the environment for the children’s health and safety, appropriate stimulation through language and activities with warm interactions.
With advanced technologies such as this the acidity of the infant’s blood as well as the heart rate can be measured. New
This is based on the neonate’s heart rate, respiratory effort, muscle tone, reflex irritability and skin colour (Crisp et al., 2014). There are many factors that can impact upon the Apgar score, such as length of fetal gestation, medications used during pregnancy and childbirth, resuscitation and neurological abnormalities (Watterberg et al., 2015). In the case of a neonate receiving an Apgar score less than 7 at the 5-minute check, the Apgar score is repeated every 5 minutes for 20 minutes after the birth or until the newborn’s condition stabilises (Watterberg et al., 2015) (Crisp et al., 2014). In today’s highly competitive job market it is extremely challenging and important for businesses to fill a vacancy with the right candidate (Cann, 2013). Due to high demand of potential candidates, developing a portfolio of employability skills which include psychometric testing is considered important in every workplace (Mills et al., 2011). Thus, I recently took three practice psychometric tests on verbal, numerical and inductive/logical reasoning. This essay is a reflection of my personal experience of psychometric testing. First, I will talk about what the literature comments on in relation to the strengths and weaknesses of psychometric testing. Then, I will assess whether literature reflects
