Driving and using a cell phone is a mental distraction and it is as impaired as driving under the influence of drug or alcohol. These present societies have all turned out to be addicted to our phones. Mobile phones make our lives simpler from multiple points of view, we can browse our email, get telephone calls, send instant messages, tune in to music, and take pictures, all readily available at the palm of our hands and our finger tips. With this convenience, however, there is a dangerous side to cell phones, and that is the point at which we use them while driving. Distracted driving is becoming a national epidemic. According to a new report in February 15, 2017 from AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found that 88% of young millennials engaged in at least one risky behavior behind the wheel, earning the top spot of worst behaved U.S drivers. These dangerous behaviors, which increase crash risk, included texting while driving, red light running and speeding. These findings come as U.S. traffic death rose to 35,092 in 2015, an increase of more than 7%, the largest single year increase in five decades. According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, distracted driving contributes to up to 8,000 crashes every single day.

Several states have already passed laws restricting text messaging while driving and many require drivers use hands-free devices while talking on the phone.
1. According to the government website called ‘distracted’, some states have bans for novice drivers, some states have bans for school bus drivers, public and commercial drivers, while some states have handheld bans for all drivers as a primary law.
2. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that, only 9 U.S. states prohibit the use of hand-held devices to make calls while driving.
