Through understanding perceptional abilities of a certain individual, this experiment contained aspects of a tennis ball by catching or throwing. The purpose of this experiment was for students to understand how to conduct a hypothesis by practicing depth perception through analysis and scientific observations. Depth perception is the ability to see objects in three dimensions. This ability depends on several cues from the brain. These can be influenced by movement of an object or individual. (Papalia & Feldman, 2012) This allows the brain to see three dimensions through these cues that adds to the two dimensions in our eyes. The cues are dependent on the use of two eyes, binocular or one eye, monocular. Thus, this experiment showed how either …show more content…

The materials include a tennis ball and two groups of two. Two subjects were used and defined by being a catcher or thrower. Both participants had to be ten feet apart and had to complete ten passes. The thrower had to throw the ball gently using underhanded toss to the catcher. The catcher had to catch the ball with one hand and is not allowed to use their body to receive the ball. The data was conducted by counting how many successful passes were concluded out of ten. This process was repeated twice; one trial having the catcher having both eyes open, while the other with only one eye. The results for trial one with both eyes used was universally high; subject one had a score of nine out of ten, while subject two had a score of eight out of ten. Trial two however had a decrease in results, with the catcher using one eye; subject one had four out of ten and subject two had six out of ten. Thus, concluding that depth perception can be more successful with two eyes being used. The results support the claimed hypothesis due to the high outcome of both groups with both eyes
