Teenage pregnancy is a serious occurrence in the United States. Even though contraception has caused teenage pregnancy to decline it still has a high rate in the United States. There are several issues that a pregnant teenager goes through that effects them and their unborn child. One of the major issues in teenage pregnancy is the child being born premature due to certain activities teenagers participate in. Teenage girls are getting pregnant before the age of twenty nowadays. Once they are pregnant, some even make a decision on abortion, adoption, or keeping the child. The ones who keep their child face several challenges through life. If they do have the baby, the babies are more likely to have health issues such as; low birth weight, premature and more health issue. Another challenging is the teen education. A lot of teen make the decision to drop out of high school to take care of their child. It is hard to get a good job for a teen without high school diploma. Then the teen will be looking for welfare for assistance. Some teens expect to seek help from their mother, siblings and friends. Mother or grandparents are the ones who help the teen with childbearing. Society now see teen pregnancy as a norm now. The more teens continue to have kids, more money coming from government for support. Teen mothers can hinder not only themselves, but their parents as well and the child. Teenager pregnancy has an important effect on society and disturbing both short and long term economic resources (Folken et al., 2014). There are a lot of teenagers who are sexually active at an early age (Langille, 2007). It have shown in studies that teenagers are involved in sexual intercourse by the end of high school. The age before 15, 10 percent have had intercourse. The rate of pregnancy per 1,000 females aged 15 -19 years in United States is 76.4 percent in 2002. The abortion rate per 1000 was 21.7 percent. Teenage pregnancy rate declined from 1994 to 2002 in United States (Langille, 2007). It continue to decline in 2012, the teen pregnancy rate drop to 29.4 per 1,000 (Folken et al., 2014). In 2012, teen pregnancy ages 15 to 17 year olds rate were 14.1 per 1,000 and ages 18 to 19 year olds rate were 51.4 per 1,000. Adolescents ages 15 to 19, pregnancy rate in United States has decreased by 57 percent in the past 40 years (Folken et al., 2014). There are several reason why it has declined. According to the National Survey of Family Growth, females aged 15 to 19 informed using an oral contraceptive at last intercourse around the years of 1995 to 2002 (Langille, 2007). The oral contraception increased from 32 percent to 49 percent. Another reason is using an injectable extended acting hormonal contraceptive which increased from 8 percent to 10 percent.
