When we step foot into our home, we are surrounded by technology, whether it is a television or a telephone sitting on the counter. Once we walk outside we are surrounded by many with a phone in their hand, wrapped in a world full of technology that seems to improve our lives. We have become engaged in a society that is dependent on technology to work, to study, to live. Before thinking to introduce technology such as tablets, Chromebooks, or technology that gets rid of textbooks in school curriculums, such establishments should consider whether it will limit student's development, make them too dependable on technology, or if it is truly necessary in order to teach. Are they doing it because it emerges a purpose or because they want to keep up with technology? Schools have managed without technology. By providing technology, while it can advance the way teachers teach, we have to consider if it will cause them to be able to “put together a coherent storyline, think scientifically” (Source C). There needs to be a consideration for both teachers and student to have technology that is necessary and will actually improve engaging with other teachers, with students, through communication in person and occasionally online. There needs to be a balance between using technology in schools and improving oral communication in classrooms, instead of focusing on keeping up with technology. Schools do not need to bandwagon on new technology, just because it is new. By making a school “textbook-free environment”(Source A) we do not want to harm the teaching structure. Adding all this new technology, the meaning of teaching gets faded away and is just replaced with an interest in how to work with a new computer or a new tablet. For example, presenting in Google slides through school Chromebooks allows students to both works on technology skills while also engaging in discussions when presenting information to a class. We want to have a classroom engaging in conversation and well for work that asks a class instead of “[cramming] more into each hour” (Source C) just because we have the technology. Considering a school is in need of technology to teach is essential because what is the point of having students know how to manage technology when they do not know how to properly communicate with other or when they have no one on one
