Last week we had a speaker that talked to us about teaching science. Her names was Ms. Susan Goyins. I have meet Ms. Goyins before; her and my mother used to work together and they were very close friends. When she walked into the room I said to myself, "What a small world".
A lot of the students in the class are bio majors or other majors that go into biology( Like me. I'm a biochem major). Like Dr. Lee always reminds the class, many of us will not make it into medical school. This presentation helped give many students another alternative about a career path.

Kathy’s involvement in teaching was inspired by her mom who was a 7th grade teacher at Pete Middle School in Cedar Falls. She also babysat so she already knew she liked kids. As Kathy entered into high school and then to college, she taught the Sunday School at her church. This only strengthened her desire to become a teacher. My affinity for biology comes from my childhood days that I spent watching dissection of rats and looking at the cellular structure under microscope. My mother, being a professor of biology regularly used to take me with her to a Biology lab and that is where my journey towards medical career began. Early on in my life, my family went through a long agony of my father's illness and death. This became a solitary stimulus for me to take up this profession and a driving force to strive for excellence. Going through that turmoil of recurrent hospital visits gave me a firsthand experience of an anguishing family.
While many students claim to be engrossed in the medical field, one being myself, ultimately, only a few students take action towards their interest at a young age and go ahead on to pursue the field. Therefore, students who are sincere about their interest have a tendency to portray interest in minor research experiments, being in a medical field regardless of any materialistic reward, and being able to experience the true work of someone of the medical field.
I think that I have always wanted to be a teacher. Being the eldest of four children, I have always enjoyed being that helping hand and using my talents and abilities to help others. In the remainder of this essay, I will explore how my personal background, development as an individual over time, and how experiences as a student have influenced my attitude towards education and prompted me to choose teaching as a profession.
An outstanding educator possesses unique qualities that set him or her apart from others in the field. Ask any student about a favorite teacher and listen intently as he or she describes that person with a smile. Ask a parent of a child who will enter first grade in the fall about the teacher choice for their child. The parent would describe the outstanding educator in their desire for that special teacher. The qualities of an outstanding educator are easily recognized by those whose lives they touch, shape, and change on a daily basis. It is in this writing piece that they will be described and discussed.
Being a teacher is a life changing the experience? It’s a great opportunity for you to teach your students all the knowledge you can think of to create a bright future for our little ones. The school that I visited was Santa Maria Elementary, and I interview Mrs. Maria Juanita Lozano, she is Special Education Teacher – PPCD for almost 32 years of experience. Education has always been an important piece in my family’s legacy. My grandmother was one of the first African American women to have a school named after her, and the majority of my uncles, aunts, and cousins all work within the education field. Naturally, I decided to write about two influential educators that have greatly impacted my life.
I aspire to exceed expectations in this field and work with doctors to access possible conditions. As a student who has always been passionate about science and excelled in these areas, I have had the opportunity to share my knowledge while assisting a physics instructor in the laboratory with experiments he plans to introduce in future classes and while tutoring struggling students in Chemistry, A&P, and Statistics. This has been a rewarding experience for me as I desire to see others succeed. This has also allowed me to stay sharp in these areas and has helped me learn to communicate more effectively; both of which will be beneficial to my program. This year, I’ve had the honor of instructing a science club at a private school where I led a group of students through hands-on learning projects and experimentations. Although I demonstrate a strong background in Science, I knew it would be important to gain some medical experience. I feel the areas that I have touched in this paper along with my personal philosophy statement, reflect my views and opinions as a future educator. I have spoke about areas that are of importance to me, and ideas that I feel will make a difference in someone’s life. As a teacher, I truly want to make a difference and teach students the importance of an education, and the opportunities that are available to them. Education can take people places and I feel more people need to come to this realization.
How does this relate to how you see yourself as a teacher? I really appreciated how the teacher and the classroom formed a close knit community. The students’ even gave the teacher the nickname “school mommy”. I would like to foster that kind of environment where I care about the students’ wellbeing and home lives. A teacher today needs to have an ability to relate to and create partnerships not with their students, but also families, administrators and other professionals. This ensures that all persons involved with the education of the student are on the same page. All involved then work in harmony and help each other achieve the common goal of educating the student in the best possible way for the best possible result. (Wesley, 1998, p 80)
As an educator, I am anxious to guide the pursuit of one’s goals and acquisition of knowledge. I believe in emphasizing the importance and value of an education that should carry beyond their high school years. I not only plan to teach the basic skills, but also provide students with knowledge of the world they will face outside the classroom.
I have always been good at biology and mathematics. This is one reason why one of my many goals is to major in biomedical engineering. I am very excited to start studying biomedical sciences, and hope to use my newly learned skills in the medical field. Achieving a college education in such field will pave the road for my future career, by teaching and instilling knowledge that would not have been learned otherwise.
When I was growing up, I remember attending elementary school, learning a new language seems to be difficult at first, but I was able to learn the English language because of the dedication of one of my teachers. Now, as I reflect on this experience, it is obvious that she was dedicated and enjoyed teaching her students to be successful. I know today that she made a difference in my life as I navigated through my education experience and high school years to present.
Along these two weeks we have been prompt to make a recall to our own way of learning and why we became a teacher: Was it because coincidence, due to life circumstances, maybe because family tradition, was it a conscious decision or because someone influenced us? Whatever the answer is, we have to face reality and be conscious that being a teacher does not only means to teach a lesson and asses students learning. It requires playing the different roles a teacher must perform whenever is needed and required by our learners, identify our pupils needs and preferences, respecting their integrity and individuality but influencing and motivating them to improve themselves and become independent.
