Allowing me to go through the adventure of two heralds’ lives. The book I choose for the book talk is “Dead and gone” written by Norah McClintock, this book talks about a murder mystery of Tricey Howard. The main character of the story is Mike, an orphan whose parents got killed in a car crash. He lives with his foster father named John Riel, who was once a police officer. During a swim meet, Mike see Mr.Henderson is staring at a girl name Emily without stopping. Then he informs Emily about what happened in the community center. However, as return Emily blackmails Mike to investigate Mr. Henderson. During the investigation, Mike finds nothing suspicious, but realize Emily is the daughter of Tricey Howard. Tricey Howard was murdered years ago, but the police still haven’t find the real killer. At the meantime,
Alyss has changed and transformed throughout this novel. Alyss was introduced as a mischievous little girl playing pranks. Throughout the novel she learns how to become a strong proper young lady. Alyss went through many obstacles to prepare her for battle. In The Looking Glass Wars, Frank Beddor uses conflict to transform a naive, mischievous, and endearing little girl into a confident, leading, and boss so she can save the queendom from Redd’s rule.

How can one read a novel for knowledge gaining purposes when the structure appears so flawed? The use of modern and old English are combined in the sentence structure. The highly academic vocabulary not only is confusing, but breaks the flow of the book when that is the evident purpose for the format of the book. The confusing order in which Starkey retells events and the ineffective and useless information that is put in for building character personalities.

The Onion's article, "Girl Moved to Tears by Of Mice and Men Cliffs Notes" (2006) explains the reaction and reasoning behind University of Virginia sophomore communications major Grace Weaver and her choice to read the Cliffs Notes version of Of Mice and Men over the original. The Onion develops the major claim by including specific quotes from Weaver about her efforts in reading these Cliff Notes and the personal effect these summaries had on her while also going deeper by looking at her choice to read these summaries instead of the actual book. The Onion's purpose is to entertain readers with Weaver's experience in "reading" Of Mice and Men in a sardonic and cynical manner in order to bring awareness to a lack of understand and competence that can come with taking the shortcut with a task that deserves an actual attempt. Because of The Onion's use of direct quotes and small but forceful commentary, the tone is satirical and critical to an audience of individuals who have read Of Mice and Men and can laugh along with The Onion at Weaver's short-sighted pursuits and amateur response to the book she didn't really read which can serve as a reminder to the mediocre outcome that results from laziness.

Death and Grieving Imagine that the person you love most in the world dies. How would you cope with the loss? Death and grieving is an agonizing and inevitable part of life. No one is immune from death’s insidious and frigid grip. Individuals vary in their emotional reactions to loss.
Starting the book is about the most painful thing (almost as painful as a head on collision with a semi on the highway.) Never the less once the characters become more apparent, and a type of plot is reveled, things get more interesting. It doesn’t take to long to get into the book, and learn something interesting about the characters. All of them have something in common which is a brilliant way to bring all of them together. Addie is the mother of the Bundren family and wife to Anse. She is on her deathbed, and the characters all revolve around this each reacting in a different way. Darl is the most level headed about the situation (at first), Jewel is more horse, Dewey is rather devastated, Anus is rather insensitive, and so on.
This article is a good example of how life would be like for a foreigner in a different country. Because the author talks about the Chinese culture, living space and funeral. The author uses a humorous tone to talk about her living in China. This story has great balance between humor and emotions. “The Old Man Isn’t There Anymore”, by Kellie Schmitt tells a beautiful tale of her experience of life in China.
On 1/13/16, I watched the TED Talk of Gregory Boyle, “Compassion and Kinship,” a founder and executive director of Homeboy Industries. He explained how we should form a relationship with others so that we can come together as one rather than being enemies towards each other. Specifically he claimed that having kinship and compassion breaks down barriers it allows people who don’t fit society’s standards know that their life has value, meaning, and worth. As he said, “How can we achieve a certain kind of compassion that stands in awe at what the poor have to carry rather than stand in judgement at how they carry it, for the measure of our compassion lies not in our service of those on the margins but in our willingness to see ourselves and kinship with them and mutuality.” Although some people believe that once they choose to make bad decisions, they have
English literature is continuously developing into a more complex, and interwoven network of shared, or argued ideas. Proof of this goes back into all of the varieties of literature that we have discovered from times past, as well as anything new that is written today. One example of these works of art that has been studied intensely over the years includes the story of The Duchess of Malfi written by John Webster somewhere between 1580 and 1625. This is a story of tragic loss, desperate love, and vicious vengeance which all comes together to form one of the greatest tragedies of all time.
