Summary: Concert Observation

On August 27, 2015, I attended a concert at Central Piedmont Community College in Tate Recital Hall. The concert started at 12:30 pm. It was Baroque music pieces performed by Webb Wiggins (He was an instructor at CPCC in the late 1970’2 and early 1980’s when the early music program was first begun).When I first got there, I was a little bit nervous because I have never in my life been in a concert. The concert was about to start so I got my paper and pen ready to take notes. As I walked into the concert hall, I was a little disappointed at the size. It was a very small room. The space is small, occupied mostly by chairs seating a mere 100-person audience. The setting of the concert was basics. There were chairs facing the front of the stage and looking toward which I thought was two pianos, but rather they are two harpsichords. He did a soloist performance, which was very uncommon for me. Follow by Toccata II, Suite II (Allemanda- Courant – Sarabanda – Gigue) .The second pieces are from Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) Prelude, Fugue, Allegro, BWV 998 (1740s) and so on. At the end of each piece, Webb Wiggins was rewarded with a short round of applause. During the concert I notice different elements that made the concert more enjoyable. The different elements are: Melody: The melody of Froberger Toccata II was slow, sharp and smooth. Harmony: The harmony of the piece was nice and pleasant. Since he played a lot pieces, that make it a very hard situation for me to choose which one is my favorite but I think that I love a pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach “Prelude” and “Fugue” the most because it was pleasing to my ear.
