1. Objectives
The objectives of the report are to:
- Analyze and compare the strengths and weaknesses in management practices of Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Lenovo;
- Analyze and compare the strengths and weaknesses in other business practices of Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Lenovo
- Recommend changes in management and other business practices toward effective performance for Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Lenovo
2. Analysis and comparison for HP and Lenovo
According to report 1, Hewlett-Packard (HP) Development Company is an American global information and technology company while Lenovo is a Chinese multi-national information technology company.

In this chapter, the strengths and weaknesses in management and other business practices of HP and Lenovo will be analyzed and compared.
2.1 Compare the Strengths in management practices
In this section, strengths in management practices of HP and Lenovo, such as leadership, motivation, human resources management, information technology, communication and culture & diversity, will be discussed and compared.

Strengths are the positives areas or characteristic attributes which provide a momentous market benefit.

(a) HP
The strengths in management practices of HP are listed as below:

(i) Offering good benefits for staff
HP offers many good benefits to its staffs, including bonus, fringe benefits, occupational insurance and especially the contract of service. Every HP staff would not be hired forever (Hewlett-Packard n.d.; Perng & Yang, 2005).

(ii) Attaching importance to staff development
HP invests several million US dollars in staff training every year (Perng & Yang, 2005).

Between HP and Lenovo, report 1 and report 2 (this report) had already discussed the business background, organizational structure, management practices and the areas of strengths and weaknesses. In these two reports, we can find that they have similarities and differences in management practices, strengths and weaknesses. To analyze their success and improve their performance, the approaches in management and organizational behavior are used.

Report 1 and report 2 provide me an opportunity to analyze and examine the management and organizational behaviors on IT companies’ operation and performance. HP is like an epitome of a country in which people are the basic elements for forming a country. That is, HP is people-oriented, especially it staff.

In my opinion, HP and Lenovo will become more successful than now if they can overcome the present weaknesses.
