Delivering health care to patients involves a team of health professionals from different disciplines. So, in order for different professionals to work effectively as a team, teamwork is essential. However, in a team it is comprised of individuals with different strengths and challenges that will influence teamwork. An individual’s unique strengths can help facilitate teamwork as their strengths will help them function well within the team. Whereas an individual’s challenges may impact the effectiveness of teamwork, but addressing the challenges can prepare them to work efficiently on a team. The interprofessional team will involve members from different professions, so I am committed to working together with the members by assisting and providing support in order to improve team relations. Thus, commitment improves team performance as it helps unite the members to work together to meet their goals. In addition, there are goals that the team has to meet, and each member must be committed in working together to achieve the goals. Based on commitment, I would do what is needed to efficiently carry out the team objectives, such as taking on certain roles or providing support to others. So, commitment will be appreciated by the team as individuals are dedicated to doing what it takes to help accomplish the team’s purpose. Moreover, my commitment enables me to discuss and reflect on mistakes in order to ensure a quality outcome Leggat, 2007). When I worked with a group of students from different majors, it was challenging because of the differences in opinions and the disorganization. Due to the tension, I was committed to improving the team dynamic by taking on a leadership role and implemented a face-to-face meeting in order to reflect on our performance. In addition, trust enables reciprocity and increased opportunities for shared achievement in the team (Mitchell et al., 2012). However, it can be difficult to trust others in the team because of the fear that they may not be reliable or may not properly perform their roles. In many group situations I have experienced, members often will procrastinate and do not fulfill their responsibility in which I have to complete their part because I care more about the grade. So, to address my lack of trust, team-building exercises may be helpful as it gives the team the opportunity to get to know one another personally; thus, deepens the relationship and increase trust among the members of the team. Also, as my mistrust is an internal trait rather than an external aspect, I need to address my attitude by being more openminded. In an interprofessional team, it will comprise of individuals with different characteristics and from different professions. So, I need to be accepting and trusting of other’s capability as each person have distinct knowledge and ideas that will contribute to the team. Therefore, trust is an essential characteristic as it allows the team to set and achieve goals in a harmonious, efficient manner; thus, influencing me to make an effort of addressing my trust issues through team-building exercises and staying
