Using Strengths to Increase Motivation
Motivation is simply why someone acts the way they do. It is the process of setting goals, and then and then accomplishing them. “The four elements to motivation are personal drive to improve, commitment to goals that you set, initiative for opportunity readiness, and being optimistic when pursuing your goals. Some advantages for self-motivation are being well organized, having good time management skills, and having more self-esteem and confidence in yourself.” (Skills You Need, 2001-2017).

Resiliency refers to having the ability to bounce back from a bad occurrence. I disagree slightly with this result, and think it should be higher. Before working for the state, I used to work for a doctor. I think I mentioned in a post earlier in this class that I didn’t get along well with the office manager, who was the doctor’s wife. On my 20th birthday I had a bad car accident, and I couldn’t work because I had back and neck problems. I was the only other person who worked in the office with her; without me there, she was doing everything herself. This resulted with me getting fired from that job while being disabled (a blessing in disguise for me). As soon as I healed, and could work again, I quickly found another job. “Being effective at the workplace means to produce results aligned with organizational and personal goals, with minimal investment of resources. Some skills of effective people include collaborating, active learning, and taking initiatives.” (Kumar, 2010) These are three skills that I feel I currently have while I’m at work. I can work well with my coworkers when a problem arises. Usually when someone has a question about a claimant, they come to me because I’m one of the only employees who has access to a system that very few others have. There are also many times that I must sit there and think of a solution to a problem that a claimant. When there are program changes, little things can go wrong.
