1.1 Background of the study
In today’s world, the demand of food from the consumer is extremely high especially in developing countries.. There are two forms of food businesses in the food industry which are formal sector and the informal sector. The formal sector of food business generally located in a building provided with proper seating place. Meanwhile, the informal sector usually food sold by vendors direct to consumer on the street. Street food is one of the informal sectors doing the action of selling food. Street food is defined as food and beverages prepared and sold by vendors on the street and public places for immediate consumption without further processing or preparation. In this universal picture, considering the food buying behavior of younger generations will be a fundamental role because the younger generations express considerable part of present consumption as well as those of the future, as they are the category that will cause the greatest buying power in coming years. According to Riddell, Ang, Keast & Hunter (2011), other studies analyze the relationship between the eating behavior of young people and their lifestyles, particularly from the family home to independent living. In past research, data available on street food only focuses on the consumption and sources to the millions of people but least focuses on students buying behavior. This subject will contribute in identifying the major element that may influence student buying behavior towards street food. Other than that, this also help pave way for further research to be done to extend the knowledge and understanding the street food and its nutrition to the consumers.
