Stopping terror
Terrorism has been a part of the world history ever since 1790 and it still continues on in today’s society. During the Bush administration, there was an attack on September 11, 2001. It was the day that all Americans will remember as it is engraved into our history. Today, people also know it as a 9-11 attack. In this attack, there are three groups of terrorist they tried to hijacked three different airlines. One crashing into the Twin tower and one crashing into the pentagon, the other crashing into the field in PenSylvia. The last plane was crashing into the failure I think because of the fight back of all the passenger in that airline. Resulting in thousands of deaths which cause an enormous amount of grief for the love ones left behind. Many people think the 9-11 attack is just like any other terrorist attack, but it is not true. The attack into the Twin towers is different than any others attack that happen in our history. To quell the anger and the grief of thousands Americans, the president at a time, George W. Bush declared the war on terrorism, which many people want that there was a war on Iraq. At first, a lot of Americans believe the war in Iraq is the right choice and they go for the Bush’s action, they supported that ideas. But many years go on with the war in Iraq and many people began to have doubts on the war in Iraq now. They think where will the war should go and what does the result if the terrorism will stop or not. Those people started to have different opinions and they began to believe that Bush’s action were incorrect; however, even though we are allowed to have our own opinion on what is right and wrong. And for our soldiers, they are new age, and they don’t need to fight much because they don’t really need to. I would courage them to learn more about the culture and language because that is the best way to fight back the war. And I would killing the target because the radical terrorist, they only want to wipe out the US in the world map so they will do anything to harm us until they archive their goal.
The 9-11 attack is different with any other terrorist attack in our history record because it cause by the revolutionaries or radical nationalist. The attack 9-11 target to U.S government and they want to destroy all the United State to weaken the U.S government. Taking the person life is totally wrong even if it was protect another life or self-defend, it is all wrong.
Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese it was a military attack on a military target. The attack on World Trade Center was a civilian aircraft against a civilian target. The targets were different for the two of the events. In 9/11, World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the White House were targeted. In both events, thousands of lives were lost. In the attack on Pearl Harbor, 2,400 people died within a matter of hours. In the attack on 9/11 3,000 people died. The people that died were all innocent during these events!!. The 9/11 and the attack on Pearl Harbor were both surprises for the nation. These both events were attacked by people from another country such as; Pakistan, Syria, Japan, and other countries. These attacks have in common that 9/11 and Pearl Harbor are facts, that the attacks were unprovoked, without benefit of a declaration of war on U.S. soil.
These attacks both took place around the same time. 9/11 and pearl harbor were both attacked by planes. The United States joined world war ll when the Japanese bombed pearl harbor but the United States did not go to war when the attack of 9/11 happened. Pearl harbor was the start of war while 9/11 was a terrorist attack. Pearl harbor was sustained by the kamikaze and 9/11 was led by Muslims. Also, pearl harbor was against an army that was at war and 9/11 was against a terrorist group. Pearl harbor attack was led by soldiers while 9/11 was attacked mostly by ordinary/nonmilitary people. 9/11 was a horrific incident. There are no words that can possibly describe how deeply it affected the America that my generation has come to know. This atrocity hurt the economy and made us into an intolerant country; however, this same atrocity also opened our nations eyes. It showed us how vulnerable we were, and as a result our countries security, and the concern for safety of its citizens has grown. While it is important to recognize how terrible 9/11 was, its also important to recognize how much it has helped our great nation. 9/11 and events like it are important. They show us how to better our country and though painful, these events necessary into growing our country.
On September 11, 2001 New York came upon a terrorist attack. The terrorist hijacked four airplanes the morning of the attack. The attack was part of the Al-Qaeda Islamist group, led by Osama Bin Laden. Two planes collided into the World Trade Center; one hit the Pentagon, and the other one crashed in Pennsylvania never reaching its destination. The cause of 9/11 is that Islam saw the United States as a heinous country with different and awful morals so they decided to attack. The consequences were the tensions between Americans and Muslims rose. Numerous hate crimes were committed and there was a massive economic downfall. We could have avoided this incident if the airport security would have been more strict, then the attack would have a less chance of happening (Bantista). “Make no mistake, the United States will hunt down and punish those responsible for these cowardly acts. On September 11, 2001 the World Trade Center buildings one and two were attacked. However, who we were attacked by and even if we were attacked is a hard decision to make. There have been many different claims about how everything on that fateful day happened. There are facts that we know are true, though; Flight 11 flew into the North Tower at eight forty- six in the morning. Soon after, Flight 175 attacked the South Tower. By the end of the day, both towers had collapsed and other hijacked flights had caused damage. The amount of lives lost on September 11 was substantial; 2,749 people from eighty-three different countries died from the attacks (Facts about the attacks…, n.d.). All in all, America was changed forever.
On September 11, 2001 terrorists crashed two American airline airplanes into Twin Towers, killing thousands of people. It was the worst terrorist attack in American history and it showed us that we are not protected by Atlantic and Pacific. It showed us that we could be attacked by anyone at anytime. It showed us that if we will be attacked again that we can only depend on each other and not on other nations to help us. The 9/11 changed people forever, some lost family members or friends, others lost their jobs even so called “American Dream.”
The day of 9/11 is a day that will be in the back of everybodys minds for lifetime. On that sorrowful day four passenger airplanes were highjacked and ultimately crashed. Two of the airplanes crashed into each of the Twin Towers located in New York City. After the buildings burned for around 20 minutes they fell to the ground bringing along millions of tons of debris that killed many workers from both towers. One of the other airplanes crashed into the Pentagon also killing many innocent people. The last airplane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania after many believe that the passengers over powered the highjackers. Many people still morn the deaths of the victims from 9/11. From the second the planes crashed, people have tried to make money from this ordeal, making it one of the most advertised and talked about issue the US has ever seen.
In today’s society the word “terrorism” has gone global. We see this term on television, in magazines and even from other people speaking of it. In their essay “Controlling Irrational Fears After 9/11”, published in 2002, Clark R. Chapman and Alan W. Harris argue that the reaction of the American officials, people and the media after the attacks of 9/11 was completely irrational due to the simple fact of fear. Chapman and Harris jump right into dismembering the irrational argument, often experienced with relationships and our personal analysis. They express how this argument came about from the terrorist being able to succeed in “achieving one major goal, which was spreading fear” among the American people (Chapman & Harris, para.1). The supporters of the irrational reaction argument state that because “Americans unwittingly cooperated with the terrorist in achieving the major goal”, the result was a widespread of disrupted lives of the Americans and if this reaction had been more rational then there would have been “less disruption in the lives of our citizens” (Chapman & Harris, para. 1).
September 11, 2001 was one of the most devastating and horrific events in the United States history. Americans feeling of a secure nation had been broken. Over 3,000 people and more than 400 police officers and firefighters were killed during the attacks on The World Trade Center and the Pentagon; in New York City and Washington, D.C. Today the term terrorism is known as the unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives (Birzer, Roberson). This term was clearly not defined for the United States for we had partial knowledge and experience with terrorist attacks; until the day September 11, 2001. At that time, President George W. Bush, stated over a televised address from the Oval Office, “Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve.” President Bush stood by this statement for the United States was about to retaliate and change the face of the criminal justice system for terrorism.
On September 11, 2001, our country was hit with enormous devastation, just after eight o’clock a.m. the first of the twin towers was struck by a suicide pilot, the second was struck slightly later. The towers fell just after ten o’clock a.m., devastating the entire country, and ruining the lives of many. A plane also hit the Pentagon in Washington D.C., and another in rural Pennsylvania causing just as much grief. The U.S. is still in mourning, but standing tall, more Americans showed their American pride in the following months than ever before. In the months to come the only thing that was on the minds of millions was: Should we go to war? War is necessary for the survival of our country. Going to war with Iraq is a fight against terrorism. Many people believed that going to war with Iraq is unjust. Some believe that there are other ways in looking at the situation.
Before 2001 and under the Clinton Administration the United States viewed terrorism as a crime (Dudley 46). However after the attacks and under the Bush Administration, terrorism is now considered an act of war (47). Following September 2001, the government also passed the Patriot Act in October (Inside 9/11: War on America). Also in October, the United States Army invaded Afghanistan in search of Al Qaeda members and their leader, Osama Bin Laden. Two years later, we invade and spread the fight to include Iraq. The invasion was do to a belief that Saddam Hussein was producing weapons of mass destruction and due to our newly launched War on Terror, we acted to remove him (Green). Our fight would continue for several years after the initial invasions following September 11, 2001. After ten years, the U.S. Special Forces finally locate Osama Bin Laden and kill him (Inside 9/11: War on
3,000 people were killed in the attacks(CNET). The government would not plot to kill 3,000 people on their own country. The world trade center was the largest loss of life from a foreign attack(CNET). That is what terrorists do, target busy places to try and kill as many people as possible, not something the government does. Out of the 3,000 victims, 1200 have yet to be identified(CNN). When the bombings were occurring, they weren't just hurting the victims, they were also hurting friends, kids, family, parents, that is something that terrorists would want to do.
The War on Terror was a campaign instigated by the United States as a result of the September 11th 2001 terrorist attacks on the USA and is on-going. The international military campaign was joined by many nations including Great Britain to eradicate the threat of global terrorism, Al-Qaeda and other radical organizations. The term ‘The War on Terror’ was first coined by George Bush in a speech on 20th September and since been used largely by the Western media to denote the battle to find and defeat the terrorists culpable for the attacks on the World Trade Towers now known as 9/11. 9/11 has been considered a symbolic attack on the west and in uniting the people of USA in particular against a common enemy; it generated a strong sense of nationalism. Nacos states, ‘…watching television, listening to radio, reading the newspaper, going online gave them the feeling of doing something, of being part of a national tragedy.’ This demonstrates the unity of the American people after in response to such a tragedy. Though also regarded an international event whose scope was far-reaching as more than 90 countries lost citizens in the attacks on the World Trade Centre, the September 11th attacks signalled a powerful patriotic response from the USA.
To prevent tragedies like 9/11 from taking its toll on the United States, terrorism needs to be thought about still to this day. One quote that proves this point is, “ In 2001, the federal commission warned that terrorists could get weapons that can cause mass destruction. Congress needs to work on the integrated governmental structures to better the nation's security” (Augustine). The nation's security can help with the destruction of weapons that are dangerous to the U.S. This can cause more attacks like 9/11 and create a larger threat to the population. Another quote that shows this is, “Preventing further attacks required the U.S. to drop its law-enforcement approach to terrorism and recognize that we were at war” (9/11). To stop attacks like 9/11 from occurring, people need to see that the U.S. isn’t only under attack, but at war as well with the terrorists. Slowly, the country and its citizens are coming realizing this. The counterclaim for this argument is, “The work of public officials allowed us to ask if the country overreacted to 9/11. As the theoretical consideration I mention above, my hypothesis would be that people’s economic condition (poverty) has no direct relationship with people’s participation and support for terrorism. As I mention above, people cannot determine the exact role poverty plays in determining terrorism. For example, educational level can work as a cofounding variable between poverty and terrorism since low educational level can both cause poverty and terrorism according to some studies. Also it is very hard for us to determine the position of political variables. For example, political repression and instability can both cause poverty and terrorism. As political instability increases, poverty and terrorism both increase. Under this circumstance,
