Secret Window, Secret Garden The Secret Window “Books and movies are like apples and oranges. They both are fruit, but taste completely different” (Stephen King). The following Steven King quotes, relates to Kings driller Secret Window, Secret Garden and Koepp’s movie The Secret Window. In both medias, both artists establish a story about a delusional writer, yet each composer has their own way of executing the story. In the gothic novella, Secret Window, Secret Garden by Stephen King, the author constructs a believable story about a writer who loses touch with reality. In the film version of The Secret Window, directed by David Koepp, the author recreates the story and modifies the original plot of the novella, which causes the film to be less authentic and gripping. …show more content…

In the written version, King ends the story with a spectacle. Both Amy and Evan are uncertain of Shooters existence and as a result they both awake from “ dreams in which a man in a round crowned black hat looked at them” (King 480). King forms suspense by letting the reader determine the ending. Therefore, the reader feels more engrossed and involved with the overall story. However, Koepp decides to alter the plot and in the film, Mort successfully kills Amy and continues to wonder around Tashmore Lake. Additionally, the movie ends with a policeman accusing Mort of all his crimes but not arresting him (Koepp). The conclusion of the film is less drastic and dramatic thus, making the audience feel less satisfied with the
