Standardized Test
Did you know that only 25% of students in the U.S. reach grade level on standardized tests. This means that only about 8 out of 30 students in a classroom would reach grade level on these tests. Students shouldn’t have to take standardized tests due to the tests causing a lot of stress and student growth shouldn’t be evaluated on one test.
Standardized testing can cause a lot of stress for both educators and students. Research from www.thoughtco.com shows that excellent teachers quit the profession daily because of the stress coming from spending 30% of their work on standardized testing related tasks. From research in Oklahoma high schools, students must pass four standardized tests in various areas or they don’t get a diploma. Stress is harmful mentally due to it taking away confidence from students during tests. Teachers and students feel stress because of educating and taking standardized tests.

According to thoughtco.com, standardized tests allow students located in various districts to be compared. Public schools students in Texas are required to take the same tests, which means students in San Antonio can be compared to students in Houston. Research shows this is wrong because students shouldn’t be compared to other students, they should be compared to themselves from last year to show their individual improvements. According to thoughtco.com, many would argue that teacher and student performance should be evaluated on growth throughout the year instead of taking one test. Comparing students isn’t fair because some students aren’t as smart as other students and this could lower their self-esteem. Students shouldn’t be compared to each other because the performance of one student should be evaluated on their own
