Would you let down your family for the love of your faith? Would you marry for money or not marry because you love God? St. Lucy was an amazing, faithful girl at a young age. She prayed and gave everything to God, unlike what most of us do today.
Lucy’s early life definitely inspired why she worked the way she did. St. Lucy was born in
Syracuse, Italy. At the young age of 13 she was touched by God and gave her virginity and all her love to him. After this happened her mother fell ill and she prayed more than ever. St. Lucy turned to St. Agnes and eventually took her mother to St. Agnes’ shrine. When her mother saw that Lucy really did believe she believed too. After Lucy’s mother started to believe St. Agnes came to Lucy in a dream and told her that her mother was well. This started St. Lucy and her sainthood works.

When she was younger, Lucy was betrothed to a pagan man who did not let Lucy believe in God. When he did not let her believe in God Lucy said she would not marry him. Her mother supported her decision and agreed. Her husband on the other hand turned her into the governor to be prosecuted. When the soldiers came to get her she became stiff as a board and impossible to move. However, the guards captured her somehow and tortured her. They then gorged her eyes out. She had such great faith and love in God that her eyes grew back more beautiful than ever. Eventually, the prosecutors plunged a sword through her stomach.
