Saint Catherine of Siena is the saint that I have chosen to be my saint. She was very interesting to me, and her story was very intriguing. She is the patron saint of fire prevention, bodily ills, sick people, miscarriages, nurses, and illness. She was canonized in 1461 by Pope Pius II. Her feast day is now celebrated on April 29. Saint Catherine was born in Siena, Italy on March 25, 1347. She was one of twenty-five children, and she had a twin but she died when she was just an infant. Her father, Giacomo di Benincasa, was a cloth dyer and her mother, Lapa Piagenti, was the daughter of a poet. Catherine grew up being a very happy child. It is reported that when she was around 6, she she had a vision of God. When she was 7, she vowed to give her whole life to God. Catherine’s older sister, Bonaventura, died while having a baby. After not much time of grieving, her parents tried to get Catherine to marry her older sisters widowed husband when she was at the age of sixteen. Catherine would not stand for this so she cut off her hair and fasted. She learned about fasting from her older sister because her sister's husband apparently was not that great of a husband so she would fast until he did the right thing. Catherine of Siena was a very strong minded lady. She only wanted things to go her way and she revolted if she did not like what was happening. She also did not care about what people said and she did what she thought was right and what made her happy, and I hope that I am that kind of person throughout my life. I see wisdom, courage, and knowledge in her. People back in her day may not of seen wisdom within her then, but I do now. She was a very wise person for being so young. She gives me the courage to go out and stand up for what I believe in even if not everybody agrees with it. She was a knowledgeable lady. Yes, she could read which would have been a lot of knowledge then, but I see knowledge just in who she was. I do not picture many females at that time really being like her, so to me she really stands out. She was a pretty awesome
Saint Christopher is my favorite saint for a multitude of reasons. Let's just get the easy one out of the way which is that both he and I share the same name. With that aside, Saint Christopher is also my favorite saint as he is the patron saint of transportation and travel. My family and I enjoy traveling and exploring and before every trip, I say a short prayer to Saint Christopher , and not once has our family gotten into any major issues traveling. The biggest reason Saint Christopher is my favorite saint is that I admire his eagerness to serve others. Before helping to carry people across the river, Saint Christopher searched for who he though was the most powerful person in the world, so that he could serve them. And after that event with the Christ-Child at the river, Saint Christopher was said to of gone to a town in Asia Minor called Lycia, where he ministered to the Christian population there until he was beheaded in the year 251. Regardless of whether his story is true or not, and whether he even existed, Saint Christopher is a good model to look up
Highly recognized by people, saints are famous around the world by people of all different backgrounds. Many different Christian-based religions have or use saints as a purpose to get people to pray more often than they would usually, or have them to be used as “communion saints”. There are over 10,000 saints, many with different backgrounds, histories, and meanings. Some of them are patron saints, which shield or protect a certain person, place, or thing. Saints can mean a lot of different things to people, with some of the most famous ones being Joan of Arc, Saint Agnes, Saint Peter, Saint Patrick, and more, But one of them, Saint Kateri Tekakwitha, is easily overlooked and stands for a greater message even through her hard times.

St. Francis of Assisi was born in Umbria in the year 1182. He was a child every father hoped for, he was filled with life, a determined and courageous individual. He was gifted with rather good looks, qualities that attracted friends and a gift of leadership. His father was an extremely wealthy merchant in Assisi. But this son, his favourite, was the one who broke Peter Bernardone’s heart. The boy turned on his father, and in a vicious event that eventually resulted into a public scene. St. Francis of Assisi stepped away from his father, his business and left his father in a state of immense emotional suffering.
Through all the hardships and blood, Joan of Arc was a fierce warrior and led the French to complete victory. Starting out in a maiden village, and more of a shock for being a woman, Joan completely transform herself and France. Advancing in a year and a month, crowned a reluctant king, rallied broken people, reversed the course of a great war, and shoved history into a new path (Richey 1); Joan made a name for herself. No one can ever suppress what she achieved at such a young age.
Jehanne Romee, later known as Joan of Arc, was born in January of 1412 in France. According to Yeatts, a prominent historical author, Joan was born to a well-to-do peasant farmer, Jacques d’Arc and Isabelle Romee (5). Joan and her four siblings received a devout Catholic upbringing. Joan received no formal education and could barely read or write.
The accomplishments Joan achieved affected life in the Renaissance and even life today. Her success and dedication brought new hope to war-weary people, and drove the English out of France (Pegues par 1). Because of Joan, Charles VII reached his rightful place at throne and stayed there even 30 years after Joan’s Death (Gascoigne par 2). During her lifetime many people thought she used sorcery to convince people, but when she died people realized that indeed, she was divinely led (Gale Free Resources par 18). Joan’s legend of dedication and belief will always be in the world’s heart.
Marie Antoinette was born November 2nd, 1755, in Hofburg Palace, Vienna, France with the birth name Maria Antonia Josepha Joanna. Her parents were Francis I, Holy Roman Emperor, and Empress Maria Theresa. She lived a very relaxed childhood, playing with common children. Her and her siblings were treated to gardens and menageries. The education she experienced was typical of an eighteenth century aristocratic girl, learning mostly about religious and moral subjects. While she held a close relationship with her older sister, Maria Carolina, her relationship with her mother was different. Marie Antoinette resented her mother and did not spend enough time trying to show love toward her. Her mother left raising the children to a governess and pawned off her daughters to different political figures as wives.

Mother Teresa was born in Skopje, Macedonia on August 26, 1910. Mother Teresa was a Catholic nun. Her real name was Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, this was the name she was baptized with. When Agnes was eight years old her father died, the reason for his death is still unknown. Growing up, Agnes was very close to her mother, Nikola. Her mother participated in church events and was religious bent. She was raised in a strict Catholic family and her mother was very dedicated to charity work. Looking up to her her mother, Agnes was taught the same.

When Joan of Arc was thirteen and in her father’s one summer day she heard a voice from God giving help and guidance commanding her to renew the French Nation. Francis of Assisi lived about eight hundred years ago. He was born in the city of Assisi, Italy, in 1182. He was the son of Piero of Bernadone, who was a wealthy merchant. He received a education and seemed to follow his father's footsteps as a wealthy merchant. In 1201 he took part in an attack on Perugia, was taken hostage, and remained a captive there for a year. After his release, Francis joined the army but couldn't complete his time because he got sick. This period of time would change his life forever. During his sickness, Francis would spend hours meditating on the Lord in an old church, and he felt God drawing near to him. Some people come to Jesus with a memorable experience, but others come to Christ through a process. Francis' conversion wasn't an overnight experience, but it was definitely real.
Saint Francis of Assisi was a uniquely spiritual man who gave up a life of wealth and position to lead a life of poverty in accordance and service to God. Embracing a life according to the Gospels, Francis went on to establish a Monastic Order, known as the Franciscans. In the midst of the political climate within the religious community of Italy, Francis emerged a champion for the poor and sick, with humility and no regard for himself. Francis exhibited his love for God through his love and admiration for all of God's creation including nature. The principles of Saint Francis are as relevant today as they were in thirteenth century Italy; service and love to all of God’s creation.
St Ignatius of Loyola is an inspiring person and has touched the lives of many people even now centuries after his death. Loyola has affected the lives of an uncountable number of people, either directly or indirectly. He started as an extremely brave and tough soldier and turned into the founder of a powerful religious order. He was born in 1491 in Spain and founded the Jesuits in 1540 at the age of 49.The Jesuits today are still a devoted religious order. Everything they do is in God’s name, hence their motto AD MAIOREM DEI GLORIAM this literally means “for the greater glory of God”. (Linten, Seven Things) Many Jesuits (and even non Jesuits like Pope John Paul II) sign their documents with amdg at the end to show that they do their work for God and not solely for themselves. (Linten, Seven Things) The Jesuits have survived multiple persecutions and yet have still remained a major influence in the church and in universities around the world. If it were not for an unfortunate cannonball shattering a soldier’s leg then none of this may have happened.
