The spur corporation consists largely of 3 franchise brands (Spur Steak Ranches, John Dory’s Fish & Grill, Panarottis Pizza Pasta). The corporation is listed on the JSE Limited travel and Leisure Sector. The founder Allen Ambor invested R4 000.00 in Newlands Cape Town to start up The Golden Spur in 1967
Panarottis Pizza Pasta was created in December 1990. Working closely alongside Spur it is popular for being a family friendly environment.
John Dory’s Fish & Grill was originally based in Kwazulu-Natal but the Spur Corporation bought 60% of the shares in 2004. Today (2016) The Spur Corporation owns 65% of the shares in John Dory’s Fish & Grill, which is now part of the Spur family.

Spurs success is due to the help, faith and support of their stakeholders; franchisees, shareholders, staff and most importantly the South African public (stated by The spur Corporation during 2011).
Spur and their connections aim to have a powerful social awareness and to strive to improve and develop the quality of life for the disadvantaged in South Africa.
Throughout the years of The Spur corporation they have made commitments to the continuance of the group with striving success.
Spur has sponsored more than 140 events to do with sport and recreational activities in 2010 alone, this includes Spur Soccer, Junior Rugby Development and the Teddy Bear Clinic.
Other beneficiaries include House of Grace, Umnqophiso Primary, Inn Safe Hands, JAG Foundation, Solidarity Helping Hands, Eleos Mercy in Action, Oasis Haven of Love Foundation, Kids Haven, Dolphin House, Bellavista Crèche, Oliver’s House, The Sunflower Fund, Boys Town and Sani Sistas.

The Spur Corporation mainly focuses their efforts on the King Code of Governance Principles for South Africa (‘King III’ released during 2009)
The board takes the objectives of the King III seriously. They use these objectives to manage the board with precision and a more informed way, but they still work within the basis of trust, respect and excellence.
The board of directors installed the Institute of Directors of South Africa’s Governance Assessment Instrument (GAI). This was done so the continuation of improvements on governance practices are done. This tool helps asses the groups performance on governance practices according to the recommended practices of the King III.
The GAI confirms the extent of application of the King III principles by way of the following rating:
