1. The work and safety conditions were terrible for these young women. Work environments were cramped, many of these young women were teenagers, and they would work 12 hours a day, everyday only getting paid $15/week. 4 elevators had access to the factory, but only one was fully working, and just to use that one they had to climb down a ladder just to reach it. If they ever needed to get out of the building in case of an emergency it would have taken them hours just to do so. This was an extremely unsafe environment for all these girls to be in. 2. The business and political atmosphere during this time was very corrupt. No one was really interested in the safety of their workers they were more focused on making more money. Precautions that would be used to prevent fires such as fire extinguishers, sprinkler systems, or even working water hoses were not available. In the case of a fire it was nothing that could really be done. Triangle Factory owners, Max Blanck and Isaac Haris, had a history with their factories catching fire. Blanck and Haris would purposely set their businesses on fire so they could collect large insurance policies, which is one of the reasons why they did not install a sprinkler system. The horrible outcome of the fire is that this something that could have been prevented if the owner were not being so careless. All the lives that were lost that day because of the lack of safety laws is terrible. A manager attempted to use a fire hose to put out the fire and could not do so because it was rusted shut. With the one elevator that was working for a very short period of time, girls started jumping down elevator shafts and going through stairwells just to come to a locked door and burn alive. Women were even flying out of the windows while burning on fire. Out of all this, the owners managed to escape the burning building. A total of 145 workers died that
