Islam is a very large and influential religion, it all originated from one man named Muhammad spreading his beliefs to the people of Mecca, and now it has become the second largest religion in the world. How did this come to be? How did a religion that started with one man spread so quickly? methods , purposeful or not, were used. There are a few methods that appeared to be most effective, and those methods can be classified under two categories. Islam expanded from forceful ways such as government laws and military conquest, and from peaceful ways like the religion being a reasonable jump for other religions and Islam being an easily acceptable religion. People tend to go through with things that do not change their lifestyle too much, as opposed to something that would completely change the way one lives their life. As seen in document B, the Qur’an states that “Those who submit to God and accept the true Faith; who are devout, sincere, patient, humble charitable and chaste; who fast and are ever mindful of God - on these,both men and women, God will bestow forgiveness and rich recompose.” Nothing in this verse suggests that one should completely alter their lifestyle, it just states that you should be a good person and you will in return be rewarded, which is another reason the religion is so acceptable, because it offers reward to those who follow through with simple tasks. Humans tend to undertake things that offer some form of reward, the fact that this religion awards this, gave people a larger reason to adopt this religion. The town of Mecca was the birthplace of Islam, at first the leaders of the city refused the changing of this new religion and forced Muhammad to leave. Muhammad returned and preached to the people about what he had heard, that there is only one god. Islam spread quickly for two main reasons they are the message and military conquest.
For example, the spread of Islam to the Byzantines and the Persians. The other caliphs (Umar, Uthman and Ali) expanded the Islamic empire rapidly and grew faster than any other religion. The Muslims conquered a massive amount of land from the Indus River, across North Africa and into Spain. There were many factors that helped Islam succeed; for example, people would rather fight for God and their salvation instead of fighting for a king, the use of military force by the Muslims and how easy it was to convert to Islam.
Expansion of the Muslim Empire The Muslim empire expanded vastly from 622 CE to 750 CE. This empire could be compared to the Holy Roman Empire, one of the greatest in the world. There are three main reasons to explain how the Muslim empire reached its height: battling for land, signing peace treaties, and granting stipends. Every Muslim who was in the military fought against other civilizations for land. After that, they made an agreement, or a peace treaty, with the people of the land they conquered.

Why and how did Islam spread so quickly? I will give three reasons to answer this question. One answer is because of the large trading happening, two is that muslims are protected by Islam, three is because of the religion Muhammad created was attractive to people.
Because of Islam’s holy book, The Qur’an revolved a lot around the sacred language, Arabic, which was very beneficial for trade. Dissatisfied with his life, he traveled to deserts, hills, and the wilderness surrounding Mecca, where he lived, to meditate and reflect. He became a new man through his revelations, which many of his followers believe Allah transmitted to him through his angel Gabriel. The prophet Muhammad had a significant impact on the rise and spread of the religion Islam. According to World Civilizations, Muhammad “began receiving revelations transmitted from Allah,” and later these revelations became holy scripts in the Quran. Muhammad started off with very few followers but as the faith of Allah started to spread, he gained more followers and he became a threat to Mecca’s rulers. As mentioned in World Civilization, “in 622 Muhammad left Mecca for Medina where his skilled leadership brought new followers.” In Medina, Muhammad became the religious authority in the area and he used this power to conquer Mecca, a holy place for Islamic believers. By the time of his death, he was able to have created a religious empire that controlled all of the Arabian Peninsula.

At first, Muhammad thought he has went insane the minute that had happened. Muhammad only told his wife, Khadija, and a few close friends. Khadija has encouraged him to spread Islam to others.

For two whole years before speaking up, Muhammad kept the words of the angels only between close family and friends. It is believed that pagan Arabs felt their religious beliefs were far less sophisticated than other religions such as the Jewish and Christian faith, given their lack of religious texts and prophets such as Jesus, Moses, and Abraham. In 622 CE Muhammad recited his teaching publicly in Mecca. Though eventually there was such a resistance to the teachings of Islam, largely attributed to its threat to local business during pilgrimages to Mecca, Muhammad decided to leave.
