In the movie Spotlight, the team at the Boston Globe publicized a scandal that the Catholic Church was suppressing for nearly 30 years. The Church was fully aware the priest were abusing children yet, did nothing about it. In order for the team to expose the church, the team had to work countless hours to remain focused on the “big picture”. The justice system including their friends, demanded the team to stop investigating the case. The team remained focused. Eventually, gathering enough information to inform the public about this extremely important matter that would soon become one of the biggest scandals in history. The Spotlight team wanted to reveal to the public that Cardinal Law ( the head of the Catholic Church) was completely aware of this matter and ignored it. The team wanted the public to understand this was a consistent problem that the church was fully aware of. In order to make public , the team had to venture out of their comfort zone and seek creative ways to find the truth. The team began to reach out to Churches and support groups that consisted of victims abused by priests. An example from the movie is when the team reached out to Phil, the …show more content…

In the movie Robby’s close friend Jim is a lawyer for the Catholic Church. Multiple times he tells Robby to stop investigating the case. The team had a difficult time speaking to lawyers and getting the proof from the justice system. An example of this can be seen in the movie when Mike was trying to get to the lawyer named Mitchell to speak up. At first he wanted no part of this case, but because Mike was so persistent, he gave Mike the pieces he knew would help the story. Another example of this was when, Mike went to the court for the documents that would prove the small settlement given to the victims not to speak up. The officer gave Mike a hard time forcing him to speak to the judge to grant him these
