Two thirds of the human body, including an athlete's body, is made up of water. Without water we can not live, nor would we exist. Water needs to be purified in order to be drinkable and safe for humanity. Most athlete's drink high quality purified water which promotes their hydration. Dehydration is the result of not having water in your body. This can lead to fatigue, headaches, joint pain and other uncomfortable states in the human body which would affect an athlete's performance. A human can not spend more than three days without having water, therefore an athlete that uses more water than a normal person would have a shorter period of time because of how quickly they use the water. Specialists have decided that drinking a sports drink, such as Gatorade, is better for athletes than if they ate carbs or drink sugary drinks like soda. Gatorade is a sports drink that can be used to combat dehydration in both athletes and citizens of third world countries. Gatorade was first made popular by Michael Jordan who helped it become well know in 1997. Gatorade came about when the Florida Gator Football Coach, Dwayne Douglas, was concerned for his players that were overly exhausted and passing out during football season. He made his way to the university kidney specialist, Dr. Robert Cade, to find some answers. Coach Douglas’ players were sweating off up to 18 pounds without being thirsty for water. Dr. Cade then began to make a mixture with healthy ingredients such as water, carbohydrates and electrolytes. These ingredients all helped to replace the athlete's lost fluids. It was then called “ Gator Coaches Ade”. The Gators started winning games and soon every team was drinking this sports drinks. This was the beginning of the sports drink industry. Gatorade has won many awards like the Clio Sports Award. This stuff has been proven to be better for athlete's than water because of it's ingredients. Gatorade is a major market and has many athletes that endorse
... with 20.6; and distilled water and tap water had the least with 0.1 and 3.1. They concluded that because orange juice had the most electrolytes it was better for athletes.
The human body is estimated to be about 60 to 70 percent water. Blood, as well as your muscles, lungs, and brain all contain a high percentage of water. Water is extremely important and essential to our health (Kaushik, Mullee, Bryant, Hill, 2007). Dehydration is one of the most common side effects of not consuming enough w...
Gatorade was invented 1965 by a group of scientists at the University of Florida College of Medicine. That also includes Robert Cade, Dana Shires, Harry James Fee and Alejandro de Quesada. They invented Gatorade to replace the electrolytes and carbs, while keeping them hydrated, that the athletes were losing through physical activity. The earliest mixture/version of gatorade where water, sodium, sugar, potassium, phosphate and lemon juice. And gatorade is made out of now water, sucrose, dextrose, citric acid, natural flavor, sodium chloride, sodium citrate, monopotassium phosphate, and flavoring/coloring ingredients; some Gatorade flavor variations use brominated vegetable oil as a stabilizer. The today’s version has changed from the early version. They have added dextrose, citric acid, natural flavor, sodium chloride, sodium citrate, monopotassium phosphate, and some have brominated vegetable oil as a stabilizer.
Gatorade was brought to the public in the early summer of 1965, at the University of Florida. At the University of Florida, one of the assistant football coaches went to a team of University physicians and asked them if there could be anyway for them to determine why his players were being affected by the heat and if it was possible to solve the problem. Doing research on Gatorade’s website, on the history page, it stated, “Dr. Robert Cade, Dr. Dana Shires, Dr. H. James Free and Dr. Alejandro de Quesada — soon discovered two key factors that were causing the Gator players to 'wilt': the fluids and electrolytes the players lost through sweat were not being replaced, and the large amounts of carbohydrates the players' bodies used for energy were not being replenished. The researchers then took their findings into the lab, and scientifically formulated a new, precisely balanced carbohydrate-electrolyte beverage that would adequately replace the key components lost by Gator players through sweating and exercise. They called their concoction ‘Gator...
To begin, everyone hears about Gatorade through advertisements on tv and in person whether it's an add on a billboard or Gatorade sponsoring an event. But what is it about Gatorade that's so great? It's the abundance of Electrolytes, Carbohydrates, and calories which are three major components that aid the post workout recovery process. These three nutrients cannot recover the body to its
Gatorade is one of many sports drinks that is out in the market. It was first made back in 1956 by a group of scientists in the University of Florida. The main reason Gatorade was made in the first place was to help the athletes of the university by replacing the body fluids that they lost during competitions especially in the hot weather of southern Florida. In a competition athletes lose water, carbohydrates and electrolytes through lots of sweating so Gatorade’s first priority was to replace them and re-energize the athletes. The first ever bottles of Gatorade that were created did not contain as much ingredients as todays Gatorades, and at first 10 players from the University’s Football team tested the drinks. It didn’t take long for the effects to show and the team quickly started to win their games. After the team’s results started to get better, Gatorade gained lots of attention from around the athletic community and after a few short years it was the official drink of the NFL, NBA, MLB, PGA, AVP, and the MLS. After all the l success, it was bought by Pepsi Company in 2001. This meant that it would no longer distribute its products to only the USA and Canada, but to the entire world and since then Gatorade products have been sent to almost 80 different countries. But the big question now, is that does it really help athletes? Was this the reason behind all the success of the Florida Gators through the 60’s?
Early summer, about forty-eight years ago in 1965, University of Florida assistant football coach, Dwayne Douglas, sat down and wondered why so many of his players were suffering from heat strokes and heat related illnesses during games or practice. So, he went to the university physicians and asked them to determine why this was happening. Not long after it was discovered that two key factors were causing the Florida Gator players to suffer from these conditions: the fluids and electrolytes the players were losing during the events were not being put back into the body, and the massive amounts of carbohydrates the players' bodies used for energy were not being replenished. So, he decided to create Gatorade. There are plenty of Gurus out there who will sit and tell you that water is natural and it’s the best thing you could ever put into your body, but let’s get real I’ll take scientifically proven research over someone’s “word” any day. Gatorade is a sports drink and nutritional supplement manufacturer that provides a line of products that athletes may use to hydrate, recover and fuel their body while they practice and compete in competitive sports. Gatorade, in their commercial “Your Game is Our Lab,” they claim, “This (athlete's place of training or competition) is our lab. It’s where we learn everything we know. Where we study the athletic body.” Many athletes consume Gatorade, but often do not know the importance of the company’s tactics in why they are consuming Gatorade’s line of sports fuel products.

Most people do not become thirsty until they have lost more than 2% of their body weight. And if you only drink enough to quench your thirst, you may still be dehydrated. Keep a water bottle available when working out and drink as often. as you want, ideally every 15 to 30 minutes. High school and junior High school athletes can bring a water bottle to school and drink.
Hydration with water and other water-based liquids is critical for survival and functioning of the body’s organs. Water is 60% of the total human body composition. Water is involved in the function of temperature regulation, elimination of waste and secretion, digestion, and is 80% of blood composition. Deborah Boardly, assistant professor of health promotion and human performance at the University of Ohio in Toledo says, "I truly believe that dehydration (insufficient body fluids) may be the number one nutrition problem for athletes—and, possibly, people in general." Boardly goes on to say, "Today we have all these concerns about everything we should and shouldn’t eat—and yet here is this absolutely fundamental substance and it is grossly overlooked."(http://www.tdo.com/features/health/stories/0803/)
The soft drinks industry has evolved over the last 50 years. At the end of the fifties households were consuming more wine than any other beverages. By the beginning of the seventies households were diminishing their wine consumption for appellation wine, not to mention that strong alcohols saw a significant increase during this period with mineral water. Other soft drinks such as fruit drinks, sodas and colas became popular by the end of the eighties. Soft drinks sells became steeper during the nineties probably correlated with the fact that this period is situated during the raise of generation Y. This generation was highly influenced by television and Internet, thus commercials. Generation Y has been a golden pool for marketers at that time and allowed companies to progress a lot concerning their marketing research techniques.
How Does Doping in sport damage the sporting industry as a whole? The usage of performance-enhancing drugs in sports is commonly known as Doping. Doping is banned worldwide in every sports administration and competitions and doping gives an unfair advantage to those using illegal substances, such as steroids to boost their performance. It also puts at stake the integrity of those athletes who do not use performance-enhancing drugs also known as “clean” athletes. In fact it seems that we’re now entering the era of performance-enhancing drugs within professional sports.
The 10 major products of the soft drink industry are produced by Pepsi and Coca-Cola in America. According, to a news post on NBC from research from 2010, of no surprise number one is Coca-Cola. Most Americans prefer Coke products over Pepsi. Number two is Diet Coke. Many people look to drink Diet Coke because it is the “healthier” version of the loved Coca-Cola. Number three is Pepsi. Next is also by PepsiCo which is Mountain Dew at number four. Dr.Pepper is number five and this is very surprising because I don’t see many people drinking it as much as all the other drinks. Sprite is number six in the ten major products. Number seven is Diet Pepsi with Diet Mountain Dew being number eight. I don’t remember seeing many stores selling Diet Mountain
It has been a long time, the name Coca Cola can almost be regarded as a symbol of consumers’ culture of Americans and people around the world with its interesting history. With a history of over 100 years of existence, Coca Cola was first founded by pharmacist John Stithy Pemberton who served in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. He created Coca Cola to be like a painkiller, healing to treat his war injury. S.Pemberton says “Coke also can cure headache, nervousness, depression and addictions.” As understood by the American people at that time, People believed that Coke is an oral drug. Meanwhile, Coke had a new face when the recipe of Coca Cola was completed by accident. A bar employee, Jacobs, confused the Coca Cola syrup and mixed it with soda water instead of ordinary recipe of John Stithy Pemberton and as the result, Jacobs corrected Pemberton's formula. Nowadays, Coca Cola brand is a top selling soft drink and everyone in the world loves it, but everything has two sides to it. Although Coke is the current popular beverage it still has harmful health risks if we consume too much.
