Speech on Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet Act Five Scene 3

Introduction

The play is a Romantic Tragedy.

The play is sad because there are misunderstandings between all the

characters and ends with the lovers dying.

The play is about two of the richest and most important families in

Verona the Montague's and the Capulet's. They are both in a deadly

feud. No one can remember how it even started.

Romeo Montague finds out there is to be a party at the house. Romeo

decides to gate crash it the party in hope to see the girl he loves

"Rosaline."

At the party Romeo meets Juliet the Capulet's daughter, they dance not

knowing each other's identity. But as the night goes on they find out.

Romeo and Juliet meet later on in the Capulet's orchard. Romeo

proposes to Juliet, she agrees.

Romeo then arranges the wedding with Friar Lawrence. They then get

married.

Mercutio fights with Tybalt and is killed. Romeo then fights with

Tybalt and kills him. Romeo is then banished to Mantua. In the mean

time Juliet's parents have arranged for her to marry Paris, Juliet

then call Friar Lawrence he gives her a potion which makes her appear

dead for forty two hours. The Friar says when she lays in the family

tomb he will send for Romeo to get her.

The letter from friar Lawrence id delayed Romeo hears Juliet is dead

Romeo gets poison a rides to Verona he reaches the tomb and sees

Juliet lying there He drinks the poison and dies.

Juliet wakes up and finds Romeo dead so she stabs herself.

In Act 5 Scene 3

Paris comes to Juliet's grave to strew flowers and weep. He sends his

Page a ways off, to act as a lookout. Paris promises to visit Juliet's

grave every night, then the Page whistles to warn him that someone is

coming. Paris sees a torch and withdraws into the darkness to see who

else has come to Juliet's grave.

Romeo sends Balthasar away with a letter for Romeo's father, and then
