The South Beach Diet was created by, Dr. Arthur Agatston, a Cardiologist living in Miami. He developed this diet plan to help his cardiology patients improve their health. Word soon spread that this diet was actually helping people loose unwanted pounds, keep the weight off, and improving their overall health. The South Beach Diet has been proven to be an effective weight loss plan and a healthy lifestyle change. There are many mis-conceptions about The South Beach Diet. Many people believe that The South Beach Diet is a low carb diet, high in fat, protein and requires a fixed percentage of protein, carbs and fat. This is not the case. You have also altered the way that your body will react to the foods that made you overweight. At the end of phase one you will notice a difference in your appearance. The average weight loss is about ten pounds, a majority of this weight being shed from your midsection. As you begin phase two, you will slowly reintroduce those foods that you eliminated for two weeks, back into your diet. “The cravings that ruled your eating habits will be gone, and they will stay away for as long as you stick with the program. The weight loss doesn’t happen because you’re trying to eat less. But you will be eating fewer of those foods that created those bad urges.” (Agatston) By this time, you will notice that The South Beach Diet, is unlike any other diet you have tried before. You are not being deprived of food, yet you are feeling satisfied with the healthy food choices that this plan has guided you to. An example meal according to the official South Beach Diet website in phase two, consists of, “oatmeal and vegetable juice for breakfast, edamame for a mid-morning snack, chicken fingers with veggie slaw and non-fat milk for lunch, tomatoes topped with cottage cheese for a mid-day snack, grilled chicken with rice noodles and non-fat milk for dinner, and custard for your dessert.” You will remain in phase two of this diet for however long you want, loosing as much weight as you desire.
