Productive or Idle Art can be seen at different perspectives. Some of which support the art, while others have it come off as just wrong. Socially engaged art is a common victim to perspective. Depending on how it’s done, it could bring new ideas or light to a situation. If it’s done incorrectly, it could worsen the subject or disturb the viewer. Pablo Helguera’s book; Education for Socially-Engaged Art; is one that touches on the discussion of what socially engaged art is and how it affects people. There are many different interpretations of what this particular type of art may be. Pablo Helguera’s idea of socially engaged art, along with many others, include the involvement of other people other than the artist themselves. This production is a statement about the behaviors between museum and artistic practices. While one side of the statement talks about how there may be a professional artistic life involved with the museum aspect, there will be more expression through the artistic freedom route. The two ideas contradicting each other throughout the statement. This statement may challenge the readers to think of their artistic endeavors and how they went through them; as well as breaks down the daily life of an artist and destroying stereotypes. This, mentally affecting the audience to question if they have made an incorrect judgment. This is not a socially collaborative work in the sense that it fails to include anyone other than Pablo Helguera. While the statement may have triggered some questions and challenged some of the ideas people have on art etiquette, there was a missing physical aspect that is necessary to consider this to be socially engaged.
