There is nothing more iconic and well known than Disney artwork and movies. Anyone old enough or young enough to have some kind of recollection will be able to remember some classic movie or cartoon created by Walt Disney and his team of animators. One in particular is Disney’s very first feature length film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. With this film having great success and being deemed a classic movie seen by the majority of the population it is inevitable that parts of the artwork used to create the film would be taken and or altered for other uses such as internet memes or the basis of a painting. Almost every aspect of the original scene from the still frame of the movie is used except this crucial part has been altered to convey the meaning he is stressing. Although the object is changed from an apple to a “Big Mac” box it still has the same shades of red as the original. This color is typically used to symbolize stoppage or to warn of possibly hazardous material. Many would argue that changing such a small part of the scene would deem the new artwork as unoriginal and claim that Holmes stole the creativity of deceased Joe Grant, the artist behind the making of the evil witch. On the contrary, changing the apple to a more relevant type of poisoning to this day and age is one of the reasons why this painting is unique and original. This change draws attention to the overuse of and addiction to convenient fast food, and the harmful effects it has on our bodies. It also comments on the bad habits the younger generations are being overexposed to through communicating this message through the artwork of a children’s movie. In the film the background behind the evil witch is blacked out to create an ominous and eerie feeling to evoke fear in children. In Holmes painting, he changed the background to be colorful to somewhat take the spooky feeling away and give more focus to the evil witch and the poisoned food she is wielding. By making the background pink, the foreground of the painting is more prominent. Although around the edges Holmes leaves the blackness to keep the gloomy aspect still in view, but keeping the focus on the evil witch and the fake
