Pieter Claesz’s “Still life with a skull and a writing quill” is a 24.1 x 35.9cm still life oil on wood painting showing a skull with a quill as well as a turned glass roemer with reflections, an expired lamp, pen holder, inkwell, book, and folders of papers, this is one of Pieter Claesz’s earliest still life paintings, the attributes of a writer suggest that worldly efforts are eventually in vain.
The colors used in the painting are dark and some parts bright illustrating a focal point being the skull in the center as well as the quill, both surrounded by darker colors in comparison.

The texture of the paint is smooth and flows very nicely the paintings composition is primarily bundled into the bottom right half of the image. The wings and legs of the animals as well as and table help form an invisible sloping line across the painting.

Hans Holbein’s “The ambassadors” portrays to two imperial looking men standing over a wooden slab, filled with numerous trinkets books and instruments. They are supplemented by a large green curtain as a backdrop. Aslanted image catches the eye as it lay nearthe bottom of the painting ,thisis an example of anamorphic perspective. The image is truly a skull but can only be seen from a certain angle. When looking at the image we take notice of the two men, but our eyes are guided toward what their standing next to, acting as almost a rail showing us where we should be looking.
The colors used in this painting are a combination of bright and dark, giving a sense of professionalism and unconventional feel to the ambassadors and their backdrop. Their clothing is brittle and complete. The composition of this painting is mainly “stuffed” into the center column of the image with the ambassadors substituting walls marking the end of the items in the composition as well as forming an area that our eyes are tensed
