2. The article touches on the platform and content of the Application Snapchat, as well as a few problems associated with the App and the targeted audience. Snapchat’s platform is communication between individuals through a text messaging type program. Users have the ability to interact on a personal level and showcase creativity with the combination of picture, video, and storytelling. The content of Snapchat originated with picture and video messaging, but has recently released the “storytelling” option where users can create their own story. According to Syme, Iowa State invited fans to participate in their “Fan of the Game” competition where they asked for snaps of fans at an event (Syme, 43).Knowing that Snapchat has a young audience, social media directors and companies take advantage of this opportunity to tailor the content towards the specific audience. Many companies are using this feature to market by creating “stories” that show either the services they perform or the products they sell. Snapchat users can take advantage of this by watching for contests, promotions, coupons, or for leisure.
