Site Visit The site I visited was one close to home, the St. Clair Boardwalk. It is the longest freshwater boardwalk in the world. It was a place I often got to visit growing up, never thinking of it as a tourist attraction, but as I was visiting home, I began to see how it functioned as a tourist attraction. Many people come from all over to walk along this quarter mile boardwalk that displays the half of a mile wide St.Clair River. Along with the board walk, a huge plot of grass sits behind it, where people can sit and relax as they watch the freighters pass by or watch the annual firework show or Boat Races. This once calm town turns into a busting and packed city. The residents definitely feel the impact of these events. Traffic jams are very common during these time. This is a place that never experiences any sort of traffic when these events aren't being held. Parked cars are along the streets for miles away from the event. Roads are completely blocked off. Residents experience noise pollution during the music events held here. I live a couple of miles away from the boardwalk and during the music events held here I can hear the music all the way from home. The city has to work hard to accommodate all of its visitors. It places garbage bins all along the boardwalk. It sets up porta potties located close to the boardwalk. They even hire people to make sure everything goes good. On television there are local ads for the Boat Races and the Art Fair. They show things like boats racing down the river and show families together enjoying their time and along with the dates that the event is being held. They send the message of the destination being somewhere very family friendly. Along with television ads, the Boardwalk also uses flyers to advertise the events. They show pictures of all of the different boats that are going to be in the race that year along with the name of the band that will be performing during that night. Not only does this advertising attract people who live relatively near the attraction looking for something to do, but it also attracts the boating niche or that can live from farther away. Often during boat races, there are many people from all over the country visiting the boat races that travelled here for this events. They are generally from the boating niche. Many of the boats and the crew that came with them often came from different states too. Aside from advertising for its events, the boardwalk doesn’t advertise itself too
