Markus Zusak uses the book thief to portray how Hitler uses the power of words to commit genocide. In the book thief Zusak's use of similes, metaphors ,and allusions show how words and propaganda can be used to manipulate and hurt people.
On hitler's birthday in the 1940’s during a visit Hans jr a member of the Nazi party says to Hans and his father “ what trash is this girl reading ? She should be reading Mein Kampf’’( zusak ). Mein Kampf my struggles is an autobiographical composition written by Hitler. It appears to be an opus of Hitler's loathing of Jews .The book symbolizes how Hitler spread his propaganda throughout Germany . An after the füber turns to the audience and begins to divulge in a repulsive dejecting hate speech about jews. The omniscient narrator death claims that the füber’s hateful words “ were visible they dropped from his mouth like jewels” (zusak ). There are two kinds of propaganda white propaganda aims to reassure their own side and black propaganda aims to demoralize their enemy. Hitler used black propaganda in is hate speech to turn the audience against max. In the novel The Book Thief by Markus Zusak the narrator is Death, who shows itself as sympathetic and sensitive towards the suffering of the world and the cruel human nature, through its eyes, we can get to know the heartbreaking story of Liesel Meminger an ordinary, but very lucky nine-year old German girl; living in the midst of World War II in Germany. In this book the author provides a different insight and observation about humanity during this time period from a German view and not an Allied perspective, as we are used to.

In Markus Zusak’s “The Book Thief”, the author successfully portrays various aspects of human nature through Hans’ conflicts that originate from the tough reality that he lives in. Elements of human nature can be seen as a result of Hans’ constant struggles with guilt, kindness, and love.
When we think of the Holocaust, we usually just think of Adolf Hitler, but there was much more to the story than what meets the eye. Hitler was born on April 20th, 1889 in Austria to his mother, Klara Hitler, and his father, Alois Hitler. According to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Adolf was baptized a Catholic, even though he was born partially a Jew. His young life was difficult, always fighting with his father, and growing up in a middle class family. But, when going to jail for treason in 1924, his life got even harder. He was supposed to be in jail for five years, but ended up staying only for nine months. While spending his nine months in jail, he wrrote a book called Mein Kampf. Adolf Hitler's book, called Mein Kampf, translates to My Struggles. His book was written about his struggles, and what his plan was to do. Hitler's book also got him out of jail, beginning his rise to power.

Mein Kampf was Adolf Hitler’s life story and his ideals about the world. The first nine chapters of the book explain how he got into his current predicament. Then he goes into great detail on why he dislikes the Jews and why all Germans should dislike the Jews as well. Hitler writes about the Jewish press and how they influence the society:

Hitler's rambling, emotional autobiography 'Mein Kampf' (My Struggle) reveals his unstable early life. His father, a petty customs official, wanted the boy to study for a government position. But as young Hitler wrote later, "the thought of slaving in an office made me ill . . . not to be master of my own time." Passively defying his father, the self-willed boy filled most of his school hours with daydreams of becoming a painter. His one school interest was history, especially that of the Germans. When his teacher glorified Germany's role, "we would sit there enraptured and often on the verge of tears." In any literary work, conflict is vital in creating an absorbing, eloquent story. Conflict can be divided into four main categories: man vs man, man vs nature, man vs society, and finally, man vs self. Man vs self is evident when a person is battling himself. Markus Zusak, author of The Book Thief (2005), and Steven Spielberg, director of Schindler’s List (1993), both use their works to portray the theme of racism in Nazi-era Germany. Racism today affects millions of people daily, with 4.6 million people being racial discrimination in Australia alone. However, in Nazi-era Germany, Jewish people were discrimination because they weren’t part of the ‘master race’, causing millions to suffer and be killed. To explore this theme, the setting, characters, conflicts and symbols in both The Book Thief and Schindler’s List will be analysed and compared.
