Worships, rituals and scripture are one characteristic that is mutual among all religions and philosophies. Different variations of these factors can be found in the 19 major world religions that are present today (Robinson, 2011). Despite there being a considerable amount of diversity between word religions, faiths such as Islam and Christianity share many commonalities in their worships and ritual practices. The importance of these similarities are visible through analysing Christianity and Islam and comparing their key beliefs, scripture and practices.
Christianity is the religion based upon Jesus Christ’s teachings and the ideology that there is only one God in all existence, that God made the universe, the Earth, and mankind. The act
Both Islam and Christianity have sacred pieces of scripture, the Bible and Qur’an, which contain rules such as the 10 Commandments and the 5 Pillars of Islam. These basic tenants guide how they should live a fulfilling life and provide instructing principles on trust, fairness, decency, generosity and forgiveness which in turn creates a society free from judgement and harm. These two religions both have a place of worship to declare their faith through prayer by following the stages of Lovat's five step Approach to Rituals. The Mosque and Church is a place where worshippers can come to, as stated in Lovat’s 5 step approach, “leave the ordinary or mundane world and enter the ritual” with a collection of like believers to share their faith and have a sense of community. Although these similarities are present, Islam and Christianity also differentiate in the acts of rites, in this case birth initiation ceremonies such as Baptism and Tasmiyah. These diverse ceremonies reinforce faith by ritual and differentiates the faiths to create a religiously diverse world. In today’s multicultural society these two religions are very similar in preaching love, unity and respect for each other and although the two religions are different in practice, they preach the same morals towards living life.
