Essay on Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton Women's rights have always been a thing for my generation. I wonder what it was like before that happened. The same goes for racism and slavery. in this essay I will describe two very important people in history. They helped the world come into realization that women and african americans are people and should be treated like one. Susan B. Anthony was born in 1820 on a farmhouse in adams massachusetts and went to a private school that her father had founded. in 1815. In 1830 Elizabeth graduated from Jamestown Academy, and in 1833 she graduates from Troy Female Seminary. Elizabeth married abolitionist Henry Stanton in 1840, and had one son named Henry B. Stanton. In 1847, the Stantons moved from Boston to Seneca Falls. That is where she meets Susan B. Anthony, and her career as a slavery abolitionist and women's rights activist began. Susan B. anthony wasn’t as big as Martin Luther King Jr. or Abraham Lincoln but she nothing short of inspiring. One of her greatest speeches was Women's Rights to Suffrage in 1873. She was an agent for the Anti-Slavery Society and collected petitions when she was only 17. She was also president of the Congressional Union for Women’s Suffrage Organization (CUWO). She also helped with Fredrick Douglas and his situation. Elizabeth Cady Stanton was exceptionally good friends with Susan B. Anthony. They were both abolitionist, speakers, and authors. Susan herself was the NAWSA’s first president, and Elizabeth’s life efforts helped her bring up the 19th Amendment. I stated that everybody had the right to vote. Both, of these women had or were apart of a company were Susan managed and Elizabeth wrote. They were a powerful team they actually printed an illegal paper called the “Revolution”. They actually met each other for the first time in 1851.

Susan B. Anthony was born February 15,1820 in Adams Massachusetts, She was the daughter to a cotton mill owner, who was a liberal Quaker. Susan's father taught her the ideas of self-support, self-discipline,principled convictions, and belief in self worth. Reform was very active in the Anthony home, both Mother and Father were strong believers in temperance and women's rights. Fighting for civil rights was in her blood. Susan's father even employed teachers in his own home. Growing up Susan had only known the Quaker life style were men and women spoke equally.
Susan B. Anthony who was a Quaker, was therefore opposed to the immorality slavery but also played a role in the movement calling for equality and rights of women. Anthony was inspired by Elizabeth Cady Stanton, who was also active in both movements, but very famous for her aggressive action in the Women's Movement, which can be shown by Document I. Elizabeth Cady Stanton played a very important role in The Seneca Falls Convention of 1848. This convention also sought to expand democratic ideals, and more radically than perhaps any other event of any movement. They produced a declaration which stated that all men and women are created equal, and should therefore be treated equal. Stanton believed that women should be equally "represented in the government" and demanded for the right to vote.
Using these rhetorical strategies, Elizabeth Cady Stanton delivered a powerful speech to both supporters and non-supporters of her mission. The way she used these rhetorical strategies really influenced the audience to take a stand against the prejudice imposed on women and eventually women were given more rights. Stanton went above and beyond in helping other women escape from oppression and just like other great speakers she will be remembered. However, she will not be just remembered for what she did in helping people, she will be remembered for her inspiring words and ability to give such stimulating speeches.
In 1851, Susan met a woman named Elizabeth Cady Stanton, who was at an anti-slavery meeting in Seneca Falls, New York. Elizabeth began fighting for women’s rights since 1848 and was known for being a great figure in women’s suffrage. Even though Susan B. Anthony did not become an active member in the suffrage movement immediately, she and Elizabeth became great friends, and they motivated and inspired each other to fight for equal rights and women’s rights. In September, 1852, Susan gave her first speech at the National Women’s Rights convention. In 1853 the Temperance state convention in Albany, Susan was not given the right to speak, they told her that the women had been invited only just to listen and learn. This enraged her, causing her to leave the meeting to call her own. In that year, Susan and Elizabeth founded the Women’s State Temperance Society. They petitioned and protested the New York state legislature to pass a law which was to slow down the sales of liquor. Their petition/protest was not approved. They had 28,000 signatures but because it was mainly from children and women they did not think it was enough... This made Anthony and Elizabeth focus mainly on the suffrage movement. Anthony fought for women through campaigning for women’s rights as well as a suffragist for many around the nation. She had focused her attention on the need for women to reform law in their own interests, both to improve their conditions and to challenge the "maleness" of current law. Susan B. Elizabeth Cady Stanton married an abolitionist and gave birth to seven children. Shortly after she married, Elizabeth and her husband attended a national anti-slavery conference in Europe. Elizabeth was outraged after her arrival to learn that she and the other women were not allowed to sit with the men and she vowed to do something about it. Several years later she did. Her work in the first Women's Rights Convention in Seneca Falls was just the beginning.
Elizabeth Cady Stanton’s speech was very impactful thanks to her well thought-out address, emotionally impactful statements, and rhetorical devices. By using emotional, logical, and ethical appeals, she was able to persuade many, and show a first hand look at someone personally crippled by the lack of women’s rights in her time. Through her experience, she was able to give an exceptional speech conveying the deprivation of women in her time, changing society, and helping women reach equality in America.
