Thirty percent kids get paid for doing chores and think they should because it is better to get paid to do chores then to be lazy on video games and and at least you get paid for doing chores. I think you should have to do chores to get money and not no hand me down type deal. You need to help your parents and you get paid for doing chores it is fun doing chores and at least they are teaching you how will get paid in the real world. And you are supposed to do your chores any way but you should take advantage of you getting paid and it makes you feel good when you help your parents and get paid for doing chores i know doing chores will not make you lazy. After reading, The Case Against Chores, by Jane Smiley, I must say that I disagree with her perception of chores. Ms. Smiley states that the reason for chores is for “developing good work habits or, in the absence of good work habits, at least habits of working” (Smiley, 2009, p. 274). However, chores teach us things such as responsibility and how to go above and beyond what might be asked of us. As a child I did a lot of chores and had to grow up a little faster than some children, but I would not change that for the world. It molded me into the adult that I am today. Therefore, chores, to a certain extent, are a great way to start you on the path in preparing you for adulthood.

My family instilled this in my early years in Anchorage, Alaska working on a fishing site catching fish. The labor was hard and grueling because we would have to remove the fish from the net and load onto the truck. Then we would transport the fish to a cannery where the fish would be distributed.

Parents have payed their children for their proficiency several times, and people are starting to realize what a magnificent idea this is. The first responsibility that I think is very important is being a good example for your kids. Parents are examples for their kids whether they like it or not. My boys watch and copy everything that I do, and even if I don’t think their listening they are listening. If they see me finishing school and working a good job that’s what they will expect to do themselves because that is all that they know. Children are like sponges.
