Percy Jackson serves as hero by sacrificing his life to prevent the wrath of querulous gods destroying earth.
During a school field trip Mrs. Doone, a teacher, physically transforms into a harpy(a mythical winged monster) and attacks Percy in pursuit of Zeus’s stolen lightning bolt. This first fight challenges Percy. Luckily, Chiron was present and gave him riptide(a fountain pen/sword). The harpy attack is Percy first warning and accusation that he is the lightning thief.
Grover, a satyr, is instructed to help Percy return the lightning bolt to Zeus. He must guide Percy throughout his journey across America from Mount Olympus(New York City) to Hollywood(Hades) and then back to Mount Olympus.
Chiron, a minotaur, helps Percy conquer his first monster by giving Percy Riptide. A fountain pen that when clicked becomes a sword.

Percy, unaware that he is a demigod, is mortified by the shapeshifting harpy and doesn’t have a clue of what is happening. Thanks, to Chiron(a disabled teacher) and Grover(Percy’s best friend), the two protectors who have been watching Percy are able to intervene. To defeat the harpy Chiron, gives Percy Riptide.
The harpy incident forced Grover to reveal to Percy he is a demigod and currently is being hunted because he is the posed thief of Zeus's lightning rod. Now, that Percy’s cover is blown, Grover takes him to Camp--Half Blood a demigod sanctuary.
Before escaping to Camp--Half Blood, Grover and Percy manage to take Percy’s mother with them. As the thressome approached the boarder of Camp--Half Blood, a cinator began chase them. When they reached the boundary of the camp, it was discovered that Percy’s mother could not cross because she was mortal. Unsure of what to do, Percy attempted to pull her through, but the cinator succeed first and crumpled Percy’s mother into golden
They started hiding and saw a like a centaur, with a woman’s body from the waist but instead of a horse's lower body it had the body of a dragon and it's hair looked like Medusa's. Percy realized that they were snakes and they were hundreds of vipers moving around, looking for something to
Percy Percy provides the novel with the perfect parallel to Dunstan. He does, however, contrast in many ways to Dunstan. They are best friends, but Percy rivalry results in the formation of the main setting of the novel. Percy also feels more of an attachment to material goods than Dunstan does. He thinks only of himself and is in constant pursuit of total and utter control. Percy was low moral standards in comparison to Dunstan and in some ways, feels he is of a higher stature than other human beings. This awkward relationship between him and Dunstan forms the basis of the novel.
Percy is always afraid that his friends might die. He is constantly questioning his “own powers” (29, Riordan) and is unsure he can save his friends. The protagonist is unable to complete his missions properly, because he is always battling his own self confidence. Anyone who is incapable of having confidence in themselves will not obtain their goal. Moreover, when Percy realizes he is able to “destroy” (79, Riordan)
...e realized he is from a Roman camp. Somewhere he thinks in San Francisco California called camp Jupiter he also knows where his strange markings on his arm came from; all the campers at camp Jupiter had their godly parent’s symbol tattooed on his forearm alone with dashes that counted how many years you where part of the camp for. Hera has switched the leaders of the camps who are Percy and Jason. Jason thanks Percy is at the roman camp, camp Jupiter. He just like Jason who doesn't remember anything about his past was thrown into a place where he does not belong. Hera switched them so the camps can learn to work together to find Geae and her evil minions the Giants and destroy them. They will build a giant flying boat that will carry a few campers from camp half blood to camp Jupiter, who will unite to seven heroes that are part of the great prophecy to defeat Geae.
This is a similarly evident theme in the novel The Lightning Thief. When Chiron tells Percy that he must go see the Oracle to receive his prophecy, Percy hesitates but, as usual, a prophecy can not be avoided. And as shown in the novel, the giving of prophecies is included. After the Oracle told Percy his fate, he hesitated then realized what had just been said. He launched back at the Oracle scrambling and hoping to find the silver-lining in his seemingly negative fate. “And you shall fail to save what matters most, in the end. The figures began to dissolve. At first I was too stunned to say anything, but as the mist retreated... I cried, "wait! What do you mean? What friend? What will I fail to save?" Percy was afraid of the last line of the prophecy he was given, “and you shall fail to save what matters most.” He tried to get more information and a deeper, and complete understanding but the Oracle had retreated and his time/audience with it was over. As it relates to the common theme that is presented in both The Lightning Thief and “The Myth of Cronus”, in fear of his fate, Percy scrambles for a deeper understanding, and fails in doing so. In that sense, Percy fails to understand and is left in fear and secrecy at the end of the

For starters, Percy is the son of Poseidon, which I think is pretty awesome. Being the son of Poseidon also means that he can practically breath underwater without requiring those nasty gills people see on fish. Besides being able to breath underwater, Percy is also pretty great at being the comical relief in those tense monster fighting situations. Also, since Percy used to be the only main character in Riordan's Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, I’m already used to the way he acts and talks to other characters. In all I love that Rick brought my favorite character Percy back into the
He had multiple reasons for doing so: His family was threatened, some of his friends died at his enemy’s hand, and all the “gods”, including Percy’s father Poseidon, were faced with death. “The gods and Mount Olympus will still be destroyed, but it will be much messier. Much, much worse for you and your city. Either way, the Titans will rule" (Riordan 112). With the help of other demigods and Hades, the “god” of the underworld, Percy Jackson battled Kronos, a Titan. Even though Percy and his friends won, it came with a price. Rick Riordan, the author, writes “she [Selena] didn’t breathe again” (Riordan 155) and “The son of Nemesis fell through a fissure that went straight through the heart of the mountain—straight into open air” (Riordan 172). Percy Jackson stopped the Titans from completing their mission, therefore completing his: “We saved the world” (Riordan 196). Afterward, Percy was “heading back to Goode High for my sophomore year” (Riordan
The Lightning Thief is about Percy Jackson, a 12 year old boy who has troubles at home (violent step father) and troubles at school (dealing with ADHD). During what seems like another normal day, he's attacked by his math teacher, only to learn that she is a monster called a harpy. Things only get crazier when he is saved by his best friend Grover, who reveal he himself is not human either, but is in fact a satyr, a creature from Greek myths. Percy learns of a world he never knew existed. He is in fact the son of the Greek god Poseidon, and he is what is called a demi god, half god and half human. Grover takes Percy to Camp Half-Blood, a safe haven for demi gods that are hunted by monsters. There he meets other half bloods, like the daughter
Percy is immensely brave. He is not afraid to do anything if it meant he could save another's life, like he
The character Grover, who plays Percy’s best friend, parallels a Satyr who is human from the waist up and goat from the waist down and is a companion of wine God, Dionysus, who we later learn, is the camp director for Half-Blood Camp. As a reader, Grover is portrayed as a very concerned friend throughout the beginning, however, we know he is more than this, and it is his job to protect Percy from whatever evil may come his way. Grover shows some signs of heroism himself, especially towards the end where he offers to sacrifice himself so as Percy can save his mother, (Riordan, 2005, p.316)‘He can torture me until I die, but he wont get me forever.’ and as a reader, Grover can come across a little bit dumb and clumsy, but this makes us look up to Grover, and force us to rethink our opinions of Grover.
The movie Percy Jackson : The Lightning Thief, can be considered an epic based on Percy's bravery, intelligence and honor. Percy Jackson, who has discovered himself to be a demigod which means he is partly human and Greek God. At just 12 years old his life was not the very best. His biological father abandoned him and his mother when he was a baby. He has a stepfather who treats him and his mother like they are worthless. Percy also does not do the best in school with his dyslexia and ADHD. Everything changes for him when demons and other mythical creatures falsely accuses him of stealing a lighting bolt from the Greek God Zeus. Anyone will do anything to get to get back Zeus lighting bolt more the fact that they would have control. But to prove that he didn't steal Zeus bolt Percy, Annabeth and Grover has to travel to
