The ability to overcome obstacles, to navigate through dust, sand, and rough terrain, and to lead brave men, has equipped me with the intestinal fortitude to face challenging circumstances. As an “Operation Iraqi Freedom” combat veteran, I have succeeded in fulfilling my duty to our country; my duty to serve others however, has not ended. All of my life’s work—personal, occupational, and educational—seem to have led me to this point in space and time.
Professional Career Goals:
I have earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Sciences with a 3.65 GPA in my major. Thus, I am positive that I have met the requisite preparation for the rigorous road ahead of me. By way of wisdom, compassion, and integrity, and through the transferable training, skills, and coursework that I have attained over the years, I believe that my accomplishments will suit me well in the pursuit of a Master of Arts degree in Education within the area of Guidance and Student Development at Point Loma Nazarene University. Over the next five years, I plan to give full attention and devotion to my graduate studies and put forth my greatest effort in learning the basic body of subject matter knowledge within the coursework and the fundamental skills within the required practical fieldwork.

During the past three years of college, my interest in counseling has been affirmed through a variety of experiences. One important experience that influenced my decision to pursue a career as a school counselor was my involvement in my community service sorority, Chi Delta Alpha. Through Chi Delta Alpha, I volunteered on several occasions, among them I babysat children to provide parents with a night off; I was responsible for a group of elementary students as they experienced college classes and I painted a caboose for a local playground. In truth, I originally wanted to apply to Aurora University because of the location and its convenience. After I researched the program and attended an open house I knew this decision was a good one. My academic background consists of two phases. My first college attempt, 1997-2002, was unsuccessful due largely to distraction caused by my father’s illness. The second phase started in 2009 with a new major, Consumer Economics, which better suited my interests. I was able to narrow the scope of my degree further and focused on policy creation, analysis, and implementation. During this phase, I earned a 3.7 GPA while working full-time at the University of Georgia. Although it took longer than normal to complete my undergraduate education, it is to date my greatest success; however, my educational growth is not finished. I have goals and ambitions that inspire me to continue onward until I am in possession of my graduate degree. My journey to a college education has been filled with experiences that have stunted but not stopped my growth. I am confident that, come what may, I will accomplish the goals that I’ve set. It is this perseverance that qualifies me as an excellent candidate for the Master’s in Public Administration at Columbus State University.
