Recommended: Importance of archeology in history

Question one
Spring, summer, fall, and winter; ever seasons comes and every season goes, and even the seasons holds important to archeologists. Moreover, Archeologists use seasonality to refer to the estimated season of a particular archeological site. There are many ways to determine the seasons of a site and the importance of this information to an archeological site is vital.
One of the ways archeologists can determine or estimate seasonality is through uniformitarian assumption. For example in the textbook an archeologist drew a conclusion that a site’s seasonality belonged to spring because of the remains of young basin that he found at the site. He also assumed that if bison today give birth in the spring then it would hold true in the past as well. Another way to determine the seasonality of a sit is to look at the remains of both plants and animals. Archeologist can use palynology (the study of fossilized pollen) to determine the season of a site because certain plants bloom at certain times of the year. …show more content…

It can help us understand the impact the environment had on past cultures. For example, it helps archeologist determine the path of nomadic people and the way they adapted or reacted to the seasons during their seasonal rounds. Seasonality can also aid archeologist in understanding when human remains were buried or when certain artifacts were desecrated lending a wider insight into the past.
In conclusion, the seasons come and the seasons go, but the archeological evidence humans, animals, and plants live behind gives clues to the past. Archeologists use many different methods from hard evidences to commonsense to help determine seasonality. However, seasonality gives archeologist a higher insight into both a site and the people how once lived
