Schizoid Personality Disorder is a psychotic mental disorder that shows detachment from society and being against social norms. Most people with this disorder do not enjoy talking or having relationships with people, and rarely participate in group activities. There are many characteristics and criteria to determine the diagnosis of this disorder. Throughout the diagnostic process there are tests to evaluate the subject, and once the subject is diagnosed, there is a treatment process to lower the affects of this disorder.
There are many characteristics of people diagnosed with Schizoid Personality Disorder. The characteristics are based around the fact that these people do not associate with others, and when they do, it is very rare. An example of this would be when family comes over for a holiday; a person with Schizoid Personality Disorder does not associate with anyone and tries to be away from the crowd. Other characteristics about people with this disorder include that they are usually oblivious to social ques and self-absorbed. This makes it hard for them to understand how to interact with others because they have no interest in it. Other major characteristics of Schizoid are that they usually do not have strong emotions like anger, joy and sadness. This is because criticism and approval do not affect them since they do not care about how society views them. Which makes it hard for them to have strong emotions. Since there are levels of severity for this disorder, some diagnosed might not have as much isolation from society as others. Schizoid Personality Disorder affects your social life, professional life, and yourself. These people will not have close relationships with family, friends, and co-workers. They might be seen as loners, since they do not like to associate with anyone and work better when socially isolated. Main characteristics about people with this disorder are that they show little or not emotions, and have no close friends. With treatment the effects of this disorder could be decreased, yet most do not take the next step into treatment. This is a disorder that affects your personality, and how you form relationships with people. Although this is a rare psychotic disorder about four percent of people have been diagnosed with Schizoid Personality Disorder.
