The Sundance Film Associations luncheon celebrating Women in Film in January of 2017 was covered by various news outlets, but with headlines that were not praising the speeches made there. Rather The Los Angeles Times characterized it as a triggered and heated debate, Mashable as uncomfortable, and Indiewire as actresses speaking over one another and thoughts going to sets of deaf ears. The main women in the debate were actresses Shirley MacLaine, Salma Hayek, and Jessica Williams, who are incredibly different from the others in many aspects, but most notably, in age, race and their stances on identity and victimhood. The debate began with how to handle maintaining and promoting a woman’s voice and identity in the face of the often sexist

Lucille Ball, a beloved Hollywood actress, overcame difficulties in childhood and adulthood, becoming a successful actress and studio head. She portrayed the relatable character “Lucy” in “I Love Lucy,” making her an American Icon.
It’s unfortunate that many people just think of this when they think of her. Her popular roles paved the way for women to still be stereotyped into similar roles today. More recently, Megan Fox struggled to be seen as an actress capable of more serious roles than the ones she had in the Transformers series. These unfortunate movies caused Hollywood to only see her as the “hot girl” or the “whore.” The frequent objectification of women in Hollywood has become a major problem. Objectification is when someone, in this case a woman, is viewed for her body alone. The fact that one role an actress plays can follow her for her whole career says a lot about Hollywood, and not in a good way. Fox’s comments on the matter and accusations against Transformers director Michael Bay have caused her to almost disappear from the public eye in recent years. This is just one example of a woman in Hollywood speaking her mind and being ridiculed for it. The idea of a women refusing to just simply play her role and look pretty is relatively

She was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, is 40 years old and is married to Brad Pitt. She is an American actress, filmmaker, and humanitarian. Julie Christie is one of my all-time favorite actresses. Her “hooker with a heart of gold” was the only character worth a damn in Robert Altman’s brilliant McCabe & Mrs. Miller; and in Dr. Zhivago, despite being surrounded by such legendary actors as Omar Sharif and Rod Steiger, she managed to shine brightly. With her excellent performances in these movies, as well as Shampoo, Don’t Look Now, Fahrenheit 451, and Away From Her, you would think that Julie Christie has amassed a slew of Oscar statuettes, but the sad reality is that she only took home that coveted award once, for her portrayal of Diana Scott in 1965’s Darling.
The myth that utilitarianism and Hollywood equates to success and happiness can be rejected by deconstructing Marilyn Monroe's image to justify that a star is merely a commercial package. As more people challenged ideologies and rejected a dominant discourse of females as sexual objects, an image has emerged which portrays women as more powerful and independent, thus reflecting the changing role of women in society.
Horses are grazers and prey animals by nature, their “fight or flight” reaction is prominent. Their senses are developed to rapidly detect changes in their environment. Horses have a strong herd instincts, they will group together and follow the herd leader. Animals isolated will be anxious and can be very dangerous and may charge at people or injure itself trying to rejoin the herd. Mares will protect their young; avoid separating mare-foal pairs. Horses have widely spaced eyes, which causes them not to be able to see behind or right in front under their nose. The blind spot behind the animal should be avoided at all times.
I would like to clarify that celebrity humanitarianism is a term that is coined for celebrities being involved in development work and the two are relatively interchangeable. Through this essay I will cover the history of Angelina Jolie’s involvement in development work, the pros and cons of her development work, and finally, provide my own personal opinion of the topic of her development work. My thesis is that, although there are some positive aspects of Jolie’s work mainly found within her humanitarian ef...
