In the year 2000 Proposition A was passed. Allowing the casinos to have class 1 and
class 2 gaming. Meaning they can have card games, slot machines, and bingo. From there on an
estimated over 6 billion people around the world including children gamble. But there is a
downside to gambling. The week.com reported in 2013 around 119 billion dollars was lost due to
gambling. Around 1.8 percent of the population had lost vast amounts of money resulting in
debt, losing their home and sometimes losing their family. For example the San Pablo Lytton
Casino in California was built to apparently incur a large lump sum for the community. But
instead it has only caused many issues to surface. Such as the shutting down of the Doctor’s

It seems
as though the Casino is avoiding to address these major issues. After all I thought they were
going to help the community. It seems they are there for their needs and wants only.
Another example that justifies the fact that they don’t have any real concern for the
community was on April 21, 2015 when the Doctors Medical Hospital was purchased by the
Lytton Casino after 50 years of service to the public. 2.5 acres was used in addition to the casino
parking lot. The Hospital staff had been fighting closure for several years while trying to fill a
reportedly 20 million dollar budget gap. Cities like Richmond as well as the state provided
millions in aid to help keep the hospital in operation. Many gathered outside of the hospital

The need among Americans to be diverted in ever more imaginative ways -- through high-thrill parks, virtual reality arcades, and theme restaurants, plays right into the hands of Dave Corriveau and Buster Corley, co-founders and CEO’s of Dave and Busters. The duo’s 50,000 square foot complexes include pool hall, an eye popping, cutting edge midway arcade, a formal restaurant, a casual diner, a sports bar and a nightclub rolled into one sprawling complex. In business since 1990, this is a high energy, highly efficient operation that’s comparable to a Vegas extravaganza. As a matter of fact there are even “for fun” cashless blackjack tables, with fake $10,000 chips. Pricey, but not outrageous, and you get value for your money.

Gambling goes way back into 1860’s in Nevada (“History of Gaming in Nevada”). The history began around 1864 to 1931, starting with the prospectors (ibid). The prospectors were the people who brought the gaming/gambling into Nevada and made it known. However, Abraham Lincoln chose Nevada Territory Governor James Nye ,who was against gambling, encouraging the legislature to ban any forms of gaming (ibid). When Nevada became a state in 1864, the first legislature tried to legalize and regulate gambling, but they failed to do that (ibid). Since then, gambling was dramatically reduced with the operators being punished and little to no players (ibid). In 1909, Progressive Movement passed legislation , banning gaming in Nevada (ibid). Later on, a bill was introduced to legalize gambling again, but soon to fail another time (“Bill That Transformed A City”). The Legislature of 1927 considered another bill that was similar, it passed the assembly, but lost by one vote in the Senate (ibid). Around the 1930s , the bill passed the Assembly and Senate. Fred Balzar, an american politician, signed the bill and gambling was finally legal in what was then the nation’s least populous state. Soon after the gambling was legalized, casinos started to build up in Las Vegas.
The Great Transformation From A Casino City To a Resort Destination Atlantic City is the place to gamble on the East Coast. Although this may initially seem to be a positive characteristic, it is evident that this destination has the capability to be so much more than it already is. This point of interest has the world’s first boardwalk, which opened in 1881, has 4 miles of hotels, amusements, and casinos. Atlantic City was originally a resort town, until 1978, when it changed into a gaming city. This popular day-trip destination had over 34 million visitors in 1998 alone. Despite this amazing statistic, along with the revenue that gambling brings in, many steps are being taken in order to further promote the expansion of this great city. The renovations and improvements being made to the Atlantic City Convention Center are already increasing the amount of money coming in. There is a great deal of other things to focus on in the Atlantic City region. In endorsing local attractions in this scenic area, and in shifting the target market of this spot, this city would change back into a resort destination. When most people think of Atlantic City, the first thing that comes to mind is the casino attractions that are available. With the city’s constant shuffle and excitement, gamblers from all over go there dreaming of a big win. Many people consider Atlantic City to be the “Las Vegas of the East Coast”. There are over 12 casinos, with one building as magnificent as the next. At any given second of the day, these hopefuls may have their lives changed in an instant with just one win. These casino hotels gain most of their income from gamblers. Casinos employ almost 49,000 people every year. This number should actually jump when the Marina District opens. Although Atlantic City prospers as a gambler’s paradise, many would love to show others just how much more Atlantic City really has to offer its tourists. The Atlantic City Convention Center, built in 1929, was renovated with $72 million in 1997. With the world’s largest pipe organ, everyone from the Beatles to Pavarotti has played there. It was designated a historic landmark in 1987. Conventions, trade shows, meetings, and public events of the greater Atlantic City area all take place here. When the renovation is finally completed, it will seat up to 12,000 people for special events.
The basic system of just about every casino is that of the tables (including Roulette, Blackjack and Craps) filling the center of the room with computerized machines (including slots and video poker) that don’t need much tending to surrounding the area. Also, in many casinos there is a second floor surrounding the perimeter of the building with balconies everywhere so the main floor is still the center of attention. This setup brings the eye of casino patrons, wherever they may be, to the center of the casino. This strategic arrangement plays with the fact of human nature being drawn to the center of the action. Coincidentally, or not, the games in the center of the casinos are always the games where people often spend the most money. By chance if your eye isn’t drawn then perhaps the shrill of people winning will bring your attention. Don’t be fooled though, house advantage is always higher than...
On the way I noticed that all of the hotel rooms and service desk were all in a small corner by the front entrance. It seems like there is more of an emphasis on the casino business than the resort portion. The oasis was very easy to get in to, because I didn’t even need a room key. The oasis was very beautiful. There were two main pools. One was heated and it was half indoors and half out. The second was much larger with small waterfalls surrounding it and other scenery. It was starting to get dark at this point, but the pool area was lit up with various lights and torches. There was a few people who were out there enjoying the pool. From where I was standing I could look up and see both of the Choctaw tower and I thought it was very picturesque.

...r – “By the end of the decade, there was a casino in-sight from every point in the city.” A record 15 million people visited Las Vegas in 1971, and an estimated 81% of those tourists gambled during their time in Vegas – an obvious effect of Hughes’ massive investments in casinos. By 1974, gaming revenue topped $1 billion, and just below 50% of Nevada’s state budget was supported by gaming taxes. Hughes was able to drastically increase the size and attraction of the city, making it more profitable, tourist friendly and glamorous. None of this would have been possible without the gaming industry to lure Hughes towards the city – once again gambling played a lead role in the growth of Las Vegas. The industry’s growth continued at a torrid pace, until the legalization of gambling in other states made the future of the city’s gaming industry murky.
For centuries, people have indulged in different types of gambling: poker, horse races, bingo, lottery, and slot machines. Gambling has seduced any and almost everyone between the ages of sixteen and ninety years old. Before turning eighteen, the legal age of casino and horse race admittance, those younger make monetary bets on football and high school stunts. Gambling is even more prevalent today than it was yesterday with the added attraction of on-line casinos, offering jackpot equivalent to twenty years salary in exchange for a credit card / debit card number. Gambling was suppressed in the 1920's as a result of Prohibition and because of this will forever lure people into its taboo trap. Gambling as sport is hard to resist because it offers immediate gratification. Not only is there a chance that you may quadruple the amount of money that you lay down, a literal payoff, but there is also a feeling of hope, an alternate limbo between reality and fantasy that can be translated into a sort of mental payoff. The question is: is it all about the money?
