San Diego is the second most populous city in California after Los Angeles. It takes 9th place in the list of the ten largest cities in the US. San Diego is located on the shores of the Pacific Ocean on the southwestern coast of the United States and it borders with Mexico. Population of the city of 1.3 million inhabitants (1,355,896 as of 2013). The "Greater San Diego," the San Diego metropolitan area, is a home to more than 3 million people. Thus, this conurbation is the 17th in the United States in terms of population. San Diego is the oldest city of the American West Coast. As San Diego is very popular among tourists and business people, SAN serves international and domestic flights, so it can be reached from lots of the cities of the US and abroad.
More than 20 airlines operate their flights from SAN. Airport shuttles, taxis and other public transport connect the downtown and the SAN, so the city center is very accessible.

By Train
The national rail carrier Amtrak has a separate route called Pacific Surfliner that links San Diego to other cities along the Southern California Coast, such as San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Los Angeles. Due to the amazing seascapes and beaches for surfing on the route, it is allowed to take a surfboard on the train. Thus, outdoor-minded riders can use special racks to accommodate the bikes and boards. The arrival station in San Diego is located at 1050 Kettner Boulevard, not far from the SAN airport. From this Amtrak station the famous San Diego Zoo can be reached on foot. For passengers departing from this station, there is a waiting room, ticket office and restrooms. So, coming 30 minutes prior to the departure, they have a place to wait for a train. Another Amtrak station is in the Old Town (4005 Taylor Street), but there is no waiting area or terminal building.
