Background Information 200 (218) Samsung is a South Korean multinational company. Its headquarters is located in Seoul, South Korea. Mr Lee Byung-chull founded Samsung in 1938 and it started as food exporting company with forty employees. It dealt with groceries and trading goods such as dried fish flour and vegetables, which were locally grown (Burris, n.d). Mr Lee was however, forced to leave Seoul when the Korean War broke out. After moving out of Seoul, lee a sugar refinery in Busan, which was the biggest mill in in the country. Samsung slowly diversified itself into retail, textiles, insurance, securities and food industries, the next few decades. This technically affects the political stability of the company. It has faced important political headwinds recently as of the country’s strains with North Korea. They also face the risk of war breaking out in the Korean cape. Samsung also operates in Latin American and African markets where their political setting is unhinged and are prone to regular changes in the governing assemblies of their respective countries (Shepherd, 2010). Political stability is important for a company as it affects the growth of the whole company as political uncertainties and dysfunctions might not attract favourable investments and profits for the company and this applies to Samsung as well.
