Brooks’ poem “Sadie and Maud” discusses two sisters who grew up in Chicago and how their lives were drastically different. The only major similarities that both the sister shared was that they grew up in the same household, and were raised by the same parents. Their major differences in life were their education, their lifestyles, and their outcomes. Education was a major difference between the two sisters. Maud left home and went to college, where she received a better education. This shows that Maud was intelligent and focused on increasing her standard of living by earning a college degree.
