Ruth Wakefield was an interesting person. How did Ruth Wakefield benefit America? After finishing college, Ruth went on to be a dietitian, a person who studies nutrition. Eventually, she married Kenneth Wakefield on June 2, 1926. They had a daughter, Mary Jane, and a son, Don. Ruth and Kenneth both wanted to own a restaurant. Soon, they bought one and called it The Toll House Inn. It used to be a rest stop for tired travelers where they could sit down and eat. The Wakefields wanted the Inn to feel cozy, like home, so it wasn’t too big. One day, Ruth discovered how to make a chocolate chip cookie, called then the chocolate crunch cookie. After that, everyone wanted to know the recipe of these yummy cookies. She published a cookbook called Ruth Wakefield, Tried and True Recipes. After many years had gone by, the Wakefields decided to sell the Inn in 1966. Ruth died 37 years later on June 17, 1903 due to an illness. Several stories about how the country’s favorite baked good came to be, have been spread and believed by thousands. For example, Ruth Wakefield unexpectedly ran out of nuts for a regular ice-cream cookie recipe and, in desperation, replaced them with chunks chopped out of a bar of Nestle bittersweet chocolate. Another story is said that the vibrations from an industrial mixer caused chocolate stored on a shelf in the Toll House kitchen to fall into a bowl of cookie dough as it was being mixed. Her father was a stonemason and did not support his family like he should have financially. She married William Sanger and had three children. They settled in New York City. She later separated from her husband and remarried James Noah H. Slee. He died in 1943. Margaret lived to be 86 and died in Tucson, Arizona, on September 6, 1966. Her life achievement of creating oral contraceptives is still appreciated by women everywhere today.

Her father’s name is Lynde Walter and he was a and her mother’s name is Anne Walter and she had an older brother named Lynde Walter. Her brother, Lynde Walter was the original editor of the Boston Transcript which is a little evening newspaper by Dutton and Wentworth. Unfortunately he got very ill from inflammatory rheumatism also known as arthritis, an infection of all joints in the body. This caused him to be in for bed two years and Cornelia Walter became his assistant during that time until he died at age 24 in 1842. After he died she was offered to become the editor and theater critic of the Boston Transcript for five hundred dollars a year. She took the job and became the first women to edit a daily

On February 6, 1895, George Herman Ruth, son of Kate and George Ruth, was the first of eight children to be born. Young Ruth was never paid much attention or given much love by his parents because his father and mother built and ran a tavern and worked very long hours. Since they started to notice Ruth's grief of loneliness, his parents decided to send him to St. Mary's Industrial School for Boys. Since Babes parents did not care much for him they also decided to hand over full custody of Ruth to the Brother Xavier's that ran the church. So overtime Ruth got used to never seeing his parents, even on holidays or the one Sunday that they were allowed to visit per month. Ruth was usually always getting in trouble with the nearly all-800 children that lived at the school that was safeguarded like a prison. After these events the Xavier's usually sent Ruth home to his parents for his misbehavior, but he was almost immediately sent back. So to fill young Ruth's time the Brother Xavier's decided to get him on the St. Mary's baseball team and start as a catcher. Overtime Ruth played other positions, such as pitching and infield, and started to really see the young boy's talent. The most outspoken thing about Ruth was his batting ability and the way he could hit the ball like no other on his team.

Hershey attended an exhibit hall of new and amazing inventions around the world at the fair in Chicago. As Hershey walked into the exhibit hall, he was struck by a delectable smell (Tarshis 14). “Hershey was already a leading candy maker. He had created the largest caramel factory in the country, but he became convinced that the future of his business would be chocolate. At the fair in Chicago, Hershey Bought chocolate-making equipment. He had it shipped back to his caramel factory in Pennsylvania. Then he hired two chocolate makers. Soon the company was churning out chocolate candies in more than 100 shapes” (Tarshis 15).
