Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, is considered one of the most tragic love story. Everyone who read the story can easily pick out the simple themes presented in Romeo and Juliet. The themes that highlight the story are marriage lust, separation, and love. Most importantly, the readers have to understand that this takes place in the 16th century so all of this is normal to them.

To start off, as all of the readers know is that Romeo quickly falls in love after seeing Juliet. It’s like one of those “Love at first sight” type of deal. Romeo is seventeen looking for a girl to wife her and to take her virginity. Juliet is thirteen, also falling in love with Romeo. After Romeo gave Juliet her kiss for the first time ever he quotes “Can I go forward when my heart is here? Turn back, dull earth, and find my center out.” Juliet’s beauty strikes Romeo’s heart. This theme circles around the story as the plot and climax are about them trying to be together without their family arguing. After one night has passed, Romeo and Juliet asked Friar Lawrence to marry them. This is quite common in the 16th century as Juliet’s mother quoted “I was already your mother at just about your age…” Another example would be when Romeo was talking about Rosaline and how she decided to stay a virgin. He wanted her for the beauty but he said if she wants to stay a virgin then it’s a waste. “She will not stay the siege of loving terms, nor bide the encounter of assailing eyes, nor ope her lap to saint-seducing gold: O, she is rich in beauty, only poor, That when she dies with beauty dies her store.” To word it in another way, this story revolves around lost and not beauty. What is love? Surely it’s not getting married after seeing each other one ...

Mercutio is Romeo best friend. They are the closest friends out there. Mercutio always help Romeo when he needs it. For example “If love be rough with you, be rough with love;
Prick love for pricking, and you beat love down “When Mercutio was murdered, Romeo was crying and he was telling his friend he will get revenge. In other words, Mercutio and Romeo is another definition of love. Love as in friendship.

To wrap it around, there is variety of themes that goes along the story. This includes, lust, separation, and love. From lust and violence happening in Verona there is always one true beautiful love, which is love from friends and family. From lust to love, it is an amazing tragic story.
