Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, is considered one of the most tragic love story. Everyone who read the story can easily pick out the simple themes presented in Romeo and Juliet. The themes that highlight the story are marriage lust, separation, and love. Most importantly, the readers have to understand that this takes place in the 16th century so all of this is normal to them.
To start off, as all of the readers know is that Romeo quickly falls in love after seeing Juliet. It’s like one of those “Love at first sight” type of deal. Romeo is seventeen looking for a girl to wife her and to take her virginity. Juliet is thirteen, also falling in love with Romeo. After Romeo gave Juliet her kiss for the first time ever he quotes “Can I go forward when my heart is here? Turn back, dull earth, and find my center out.” Juliet’s beauty strikes Romeo’s heart. This theme circles around the story as the plot and climax are about them trying to be together without their family arguing. After one night has passed, Romeo and Juliet asked Friar Lawrence to marry them. This is quite common in the 16th century as Juliet’s mother quoted “I was already your mother at just about your age…” Another example would be when Romeo was talking about Rosaline and how she decided to stay a virgin. He wanted her for the beauty but he said if she wants to stay a virgin then it’s a waste. “She will not stay the siege of loving terms, nor bide the encounter of assailing eyes, nor ope her lap to saint-seducing gold: O, she is rich in beauty, only poor, That when she dies with beauty dies her store.” To word it in another way, this story revolves around lost and not beauty. The play “Romeo and Juliet” written by William Shakespeare, uses different tones and language that shows the readers that Juliet, a Protagonist, changes over time, proving the idea that she is a dynamic character. At the beginning of the play, we are introduced to a young, innocent and inexperienced girl, Juliet the daughter of Lord Capulet . She has not yet seen the real world and is raised by the person she trusts most, her nurse. Juliet begins as a naive child who has thought little about love and marriage, but she grows up quickly upon falling in love with Romeo, the son of her family’s great enemy. Due to the fact that Juliet is a girl in an aristocratic family, she has none of the freedom Romeo has to rome around the city, climb over walls in the middle of the night, or get into swordfights. As we begin to learn more about the character of Juliet, we learn that Juliet is not the girl she used to be anymore. She is more courageous and willing to break the rules. She goes against her and her family beliefs. In the beginning of the play she obeys her parents. But as the play descends Juliet is disregarding of what her parents say. She is no longer the innocent girl she use to be. Shakespeare use of language helps the reader to see the change in a character that makes them a dynamic character.
Romeo & Juliet Romeo and Juliet was a tragedy, but it did not have to be. Many things could have been done to prevent their deaths. Many characters contributed to their deaths. The sole character that was responsible for their deaths is Friar Lawrence. Friar Lawrence is responsible for the deaths of the lovers because he was secretive with their relationship, he was unable communicate effectively, and he had a cowardly persona.
Friar Laurence tells Romeo that he is acting too fast when Romeo asks for Friar Laurence to marry them. Friar Laurence then asks Romeo, “Is Rosaline, that thou love so dear,/So soon forsaken?” (2.3.67-68). Friar Laurence is wondering if Rosaline, who Romeo was madly in love with a day ago, and was the reason for Romeo’s sorrow and lack of sleep, is now out of his life. He is pointing out, that Romeo has moved on from Rosaline, whom he loved to dearly to Juliet, who he only met a day ago. Due to him being so passionate, he caused Juliet to fall head over heels for him, making her willing to rather kill herself than be apart from him. Rosaline and Juliet are both described as beautiful in the play. In Act II prologue, the chorus reveals that Romeo is very passionate when they read, “Now Romeo is belov’d and loves again,/Alike bewitched by the charm of looks” (2.1.5-6). Here, the Chorus tells how Romeo loved Rosaline because she was beautiful, but moved onto Juliet because she was prettier. Romeo falls for Rosaline and Juliet both for their looks, before getting to know them. As Romeo fell so hard in love for Juliet the moment he saw her, he is shown to be too passionate, therefore explaining how because of this trait, he was the main cause of the star crossed lovers

The two plays deal also with the idea of false love. Romeo, the hero of Romeo and Juliet, thinks that he loves Rosaline, but when he meets Juliet, the heroin of Romeo and Juliet, he falls in love with her, forgetting his love to Rosaline. In Much Ado About Nothing, the relationship between Claudio and Hero's, main characters in the play, is based on wealth and appearance attraction. Conventional love is another kind of that is shown in Romeo and Juliet, where it develops in social situations without any consideration to emotions.
