Romeo and Juliet is arguably the most famous story about love in literature. This is in part because of the tension caused by the look the different characters have towards what love means and its role in life. These views were very important for the progression of the story. Their different views collided and caused much grief and sorrow for the characters throughout play. Many important events that propelled the story forward would not have happened without the various feelings towards love the characters have and how they felt of and reacted to the other characters’ view on love. She fell in love with him as soon as she saw him for the first time, just as he did. After this she is willing to risk all she has to be with Romeo. She is a bit more cautious than Romeo, aware that their romance is forbidden. When they were on her balcony she told Romeo to be careful to not be caught by anyone of her house so he wouldn’t get in trouble. She also didn’t was careful with what she told her mother when she was crying over Romeo’s banishment. She was careful to make it sound to her mother as though it was Tybalt, who was killed, that she was crying over. She, like Romeo, was willing to act extremely in pursue of her love. When she was given the poison by Friar Laurence she states her many concerns that it would not work, but is still willing to do it, just to be with Romeo. She even states on multiple occasions that it would better she or Romeo be dead than for them to be apart. Ultimately, she does kill herself after she finds Romeo dead. The only characters who agree on what love means are the two main characters, Romeo and Juliet. This makes their longing for each other even greater. The rest of the characters disagree on its importance as well as its role in life with both the two main characters and with each other, which keeps the two from being together.
